make sure processor performance is set to high (not auto or low). it s in the 'energy saver' pane of system preferences. besides that, don't run any other programs while producing and you should be fine.

I will check that.. Because it's strange that the g5 on my school works better. Than my mac pro seems that it have stuttering. With low software use. 

on the new mac pro its better to use leopard instead of tiger !on the g5 tiger is faster and performing better on audio and video !leopard is also better for mac pro processor and on audio and video speedings its also more written to the new intels macs !! the g5 is an ibm processor totall different in behavior then the new mac pro's !tiger is not written 100 % for mac pro's  on intel imacs its ok but not  for the apple beast the mac pro ! so the best thing to do is get leopard installed greets    

Heb ik gemerkt.  Leopard staat nu ook zekerzz op mijn verlanglijst. Ik gebruik nu een mac pro, mac op x tiger en focusrite saffire 26i als geluidskaart het is ook behoorlijk instabiel in vergelijking met andere mac systemen waar ik aan gezeten heb qua geluid. Hoop dat ik daar eens een oplossing mee kan vinden.

I found some info in my protools manual... I reckon it'll work just as well with Cubase or any other DAW... Also you can download a free little application thats will disable the dashboard application so you'll have a little more cpu power left. It's called : Bye Bye Dashboard

Turning Off Energy Saver To turn off the Energy Saver feature: **1 **Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Energy Saver. **2 **Click Sleep and do the following: • Set the computer sleep setting to Never. • Set the display sleep setting to Never. • Deselect “Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible” option.

Setting Processor Performance (Mac G5 Computers and G4 Powerbooks Only) To set the Processor Performance: **1 **Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Energy Saver. **2 **Click Options and set Processor Performance to Highest.

Disabling Spotlight Indexing The Mac OS X Spotlight feature indexes files and folders in the background, affecting system performance. It is recommended that you disable Spotlight indexing before using Pro Tools. To disable Spotlight indexing: **1 **Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Spotlight. **2 **In the Spotlight window, click Privacy. **3 **To prevent indexing of a drive, drag its icon from the desktop into the list.

Disabling Spotlight indexing will cause the Find function in Mac OS X to no longer work. You will no longer be able to search for files on drives set to private. Enabling Journaling for Audio Drives To yield higher performance from audio drives, enable journaling. To enable journaling: **1 **Launch the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities. **2 **Select the volume in the left column of the Disk Utility window. **3 **Click Enable Journaling in the toolbar.

No it's for G5's as well... I have a G5 dual 2.5 Ghz PowerPC and it's on there...

Open Disk Utility program... (of "Schijfhulp programma" voor de NL versie) This is in the utilities Folder (of "Hulpprogramma's" map als ik me niet vergis) That is situated in the  "Application" folder (de map waar al je applicaties in staan) Now select the disk you want to use as your audio drive... and then use:

• or the green button on the top of the screen Labled "Enable Journaling"
• or if the button isn't available (might be because your disk is MS-DOS or UNIX formatted) then use the Erase option and select **Volume Format:  Mac OS Extended (Journaled). -->Be sure to backup your data first... because it will format the disk... ** Hope this helped...

Ok thats why the enable journaling option was off on my Macbook. Dunno bout formating when all is running smoothly....Leopard & Live 7.0.7 here!!!
