Fruity and Midi-controllers

hi,

i just bought myself a Emu Xboard, basically i wanted a cheap keyboard to get my vst-synths to play, which works fine! 8) .

There are also some knobs on it to twist the virtual ones. And there came the problem! Fruity recognises my knob-twisting as midi-signal, but the vst's don't, they only play along with my piano-buttons. ?( The midi-led in fruity lights up when twisting the knobs, but the midi-led in f.e. Vanguard does not, only lights up when pushing the piano-buttons....

I did everything right according to the manual, linked the right CCnumbers to my knobs and saved patch etc...

Am I missing something that i need to do within Fruityloops, because i tried in in ableton and there it works? I can of course link controllers to the ones on the keyboard, but it should be a lot easier when i could just use the keyboard-patches i made... Or is there a way to save my controller-link-settings as some kind of preset in FL?

So, does anyone use controllers in fruityloops and can tell me how to do it?

thanks a lot!

It depends on what you want.

The easiest way is to link knobs on the fly. Tweak a knob on your vst (with the mouse) then in the wrapper menu go to "last tweaked parameter" (or something similar), pick "link to controler". Twist the knob on your keyboard and click accept. You have a linked a knob to your vst. You can do this with mixer tracks, volume controls etc. Basically anything that's automatable in FL

If you want your keyboard to work like in cubase (select a vst and fl just passes the midi data) then you'll have a lot more work. I have a template with the everything set up, so I could mail it to you. The thing is that you then need to map the knobs to your keyboard in templates for your keyboard, or on the synth itself. This can be a tedious job, but can offcourse be reused later on.

Ok, I tried this before, but I keep losing this settings everytime FL gets closed, no? Is there a way to store it so I can reuse it later?

I don't mind the job at all, was planning to make templates for all the vst-synths that i use anyway. I send you my email-adress on your pm and will take a look at it. Thanks!

If you want to have the settings "remembered" in a certain configuration you need to save them in your controller's memory. Check the manual of your controller on how to do this.

I think it stores the controler links in the project, but I'm not sure. I'll have to check that.

The midi implementation of FL isn't all too good unfortunately :(

With that template you should save it on your controler
