Hoped an ableton user could help me out!! I've got a vst that I really like to use with ableton, however I always have to open a new midi track when using a different preset from the vst. The problem is that it eats up lots of CPU with every new midi track opened. My question is , can I , within the same midi track, use different presets ie: kick, snare, hi hat.. so as the vst is loaded only once. Hope this is to confusing, any advice would help me alot. thanks
if i understand what ur saying, the answer is no you could however freeze/flatten some midi tracks
Thanks for the reply. I think you are right that I can only use 1 preset sound in an individual midi track. Checked out the freeze function and it saves tonnes of CPU. Thanks man. Was also wondering if there is any way to put a midi sound into impulse, I don't think so but thought I'd ask.
make a new audio track, send audio from your vst to that track, record every single hit (bas drum, snare, snare with different configuration, hihat, ...) and drag the audio pieces from the audio track into a new impulse. you won t be able to use parameters from your vst that way. i also have a slow pc, i don t use vsts (or sometimes one) i use the simpler instead, you can do a lot of cool efx with it. http://student.vub.ac.be/~jverstre/simpler.mp3 is a song i made with 4 samples/simplers (3 drums and one short bass note)
in the new live 7 you have the drum rack, its basicly an advanced impulse - you can drag anything from samples, loops, vsts in there - its great, but ive noticed it does eat some more cpu anyways, i wont have to worry about all that anymore, upgrading from 512 to 2 gig ram in the next few days, finally no more worrying about freezing/flattening/crashes .. so to speak =p
cool track btw strekie :)
you can send program change messages within the loops
never done it, check the manual or help program... but this should do what you want...
but euhm, just read your question again... and do you want to change presets in time, or do you want do use different presets at the same time? in wich host is this possible? or do you mean different parts in the same instrument, wich should have different audio outputs?
what vst are you talking about?
To strekie, I see what you're saying , but the vst can only be dragged into a midi track, so I don't know how to get audio from it , thus not being accepted into impulse. And to Tezcat yes, i would like to change presets in time and the vst is Albino. Even when I record a kick for example, from the session view to arrangement, as soon as I change the preset in Albino to a snare, I lose the kick. I'm just starting out with Live and am trying to figure stuff out.
Stekie, I just figured out what you meant and it works . Thanks for the help!!!!
