LOW CPU softsynths for live use?
Help neededhello..
I'm searching for a good soft synth for live use... (controlled with midi controller.. off course) specifications should be (in order of importance)
- LOW cpu!! (I don't have much working memory left...)
- available for mac
- really reliabel (absolutely no crash permitted, as I will use it live on stage)
- good sound!!!! (good oscillators, good filters)
- on board effects (like delay, reverb... this can be of less quality, otherwise my first specification will not apply...)
the last 2 points (sound quality and effects) are in contrast with the low cpu, so I'm looking for a good compromise...
the synth I'm thinking of right now is the ReFX Vanguard (wich is good in all my requirements)
but I was wondering if any of you could advise some other soft synths...

i listened to some of your tracks.. fm8 might be nice for you , try it incase you havent yet.. i only have 512 mb ram & i can load up to 8 instances without going over 60% cpu load
aah nice, defenitely going to try that! didn't know the fm8 was a low cpu eating synth...
although for live purposes I prefer a subtractive synth, causs I know that kind of synthesis the best, so I won't get any surprises when I'm tweaking live. I like to play around live, in stead of sticking to the tweakings I prepare in advance...
but still, I'm gonna check the FM8!! I like the fm7 a lot, so I guess the 8 could only be better :-)

The vanguard is indeed a very good one, sound is very nice, efects also, and it doesn't take much cpu at al greets

something else, does anyone knows if connecting a midi usb device affects the performance of the computer? (even if it is a very little bit...)
I have 2 usb midi controllers for playing live, and 1 of them has integrated midi interface, so I could connect 1 device via midi to the other (so I have only 1 usb connected...)
on the other hand, I am putting more info on the usb connected device... does anyone have experience concerning this usb settups and computer performance?
I could test it all, but I have loads of work to do, and have a live set tomorrow night... (I just bought the second midi device yesterday...)

You're nervous for friday aren't you :)) I'll try to come, can't promise but it's only 2 km from my doorstep so... will try!
hehehe, well, I am a bit nervous, but that's only becausse I'm going to play a song wich is still not finished (I don't have a room with acceptable accoustics available for mixing...)
and what I'm asking here is not for tomorrow ;-) I'm taking my ms2000 with me... it's more for when I go to brazil... (although I'm still thinking about taking the ms2000 with me...)
