Just saw the site of "the lunar highway" - great site. And saw that they are on .tk now i want to know if it's ok. any good or bad experience? let me know. thnx, alain
If I'm not mistaken, .tk domains are free to get, but they often incorporate popups. Motel 03 had a site on users.pandora or something, and they had a redirect on motel03.tk, and every time I used the tk one I had a popup.
Also, come to think of it, they don't too often show up on google except really low on the list I believe.
Anyway, it depends, if you just want a lo-fi project on minimal budget, go for it, who cares for the popups. But, if you think you might get a name, think about it, who will ever just try to type in 'Project name'.tk? Suppose you start a band called firefiends, and you get a certain underground name, people will look for it under firefiends.be first, don't think anyone bothers with .tk
you can always get the free .be.tf :)
honestly, for like 10€ / a year .. go for .be :)

zark: €10 is cheap, are you talking about registering a .be domain, or also hosting it? (I'm guessing the first)
Kinet .tk isn't bad IMO when it comes to getting a free redirect-domain
(yes, redirect, your original site gets loaded into a frame, so you see blabla.tk in your addressbar, but if you check the link properties you'll see the original's site URL)
I know peeps who actually pay for a .be or .com and also just have a redirect... so it' ain't that bad :)
the google thing is just a matter of getting your site listed, your domain won't magically appear on google if there are no links towards it, or if you don't add it somehow
i heard that .tk comes from some small island where nobody has a computer, so they give their domains for free in order to spread the name of the unknown island. now i forgot wich one it is... :P it works fine, only a small pop-up.

yup, Tokelau island ;) sure has put it on the map now ;)
10€ / y :)
yeah, 9€ htva for the domain name at my friend : www.hellea.com and set the nameservers to : ns1.electrobel.net and ns2.electrobel.net :)
and ask me nicely, and if it's for your personal music oriented website ;)

But the servers are mainly located in Amsterdam.
Comma uses also a .tk domain (because their are no .be/.org/.com's/...left over). In the beginning there were some problems with their servers...but now everything works ok.
Normally there's one pop-up, but you can put it off.
I think it's only handy if you are looking for a cheap solution to redirect your existing site. Don't think that they have serverspace... have to check. 8)

dot.tk is purely about domain names indeed, so no hosting or webspace, you have to put up your site somewhere else, then set the .tk domain to redirect to it
it's handy to get an easy to remember shortcut to some htpp://users.provider.com/~yourusername/ site though

droool :D
If the domain is running off your nameserver, what if you have your webspace like at pandora.be, that means you can only do a redirect right. To get the full hosting impression the webspace itself needs to be on the electrobel servers as well right?
OT, but I just took a look at that www.hellea.com site, and it looks rather unprofessional imo, if I wouldn't have found out about it from here, I'd never give it a chance,
too bad it's mostly in french as well :( (my french sorta sux)
well i can put a redirect just like the .tk stuff ;)
about hellea : yeah it look unprofessional; but it is :) the guy sells them the minimum price :)
he's cool, he's part of reseau-citoyen too.
