i'll kick of with something quite technical:

RANDOM BEATS USING FOLLOW ACTIONS

hit play on one of the clips in the first track...

follow actions determine what happens when a clip in ableton has played for a certain amount of time.

the settings can be found i the launch box of a clip bottom left of the screen. (if not visible click the little L in the left of the screen)

there are three things to be set

1. time at which follow action occurs [bars] [beats] [16th note]

2. which clip should be played next [no action, stop, play again, previous, next, first, last, any]

3. numerical value that determines the chance of that action happening.

in the example i set all the times to 1/16th note and because i want it to create a random beat most of the parameters to 'any'.

the result is that the clips play in random order. i used one drumloop and selected different parts of it, reversed some, added an emty clip...

ofcourse this could be used on other sounds aswell.

notice that i routed it to a second armed tack, so i can just click record in one of the empty slots, do some recording ad edit out the beats i like...

(if you want to hear the sounds you recorded, set the monitor of track two to 'auto' instead of 'in')
