I think this is a good question, specialy for a musician community.

I guess first of all its simply intelligence. The need for evasion also-to be interested in something different to what you're used to.

Unhappiness perhaps? Well,for me it was unhappiness.It allowed me to look for something that can change my way(s) of seeing.

Difficult subject,very vague also.

That's exactly the word i was looking for-emergenge. (Its quite difficult to discus about such subjects in a foreign language)
