By the way there is another soft called Reaper that is a real alternative to cubase (not just an open source copy like lmms). I tried the demo (whis is in fact the complete version) but it was a little bit slow because my computer is very old, but it sounded very interesting. Official version cost about 50€ --> http://www.reaper.fm/
I'm going to try it.
The advantage this has over say energyXT2 on linux is that if you have wine you can natively open your windows vsts in it.

have it on my comp for a while. problem is that I never used cubase, so I'm having to learn everything... but very good program actually, this Reaper stuff :)
it was one of the first music softs i tried when i moved to kubuntu...to be honest i didnt like it at all, it just looked like a LAME clone. maybe theres a way to get thing out of it, but imo, without slicer and without master mixer, you dont go very far. i tried reaper then switched to ardour, it seemed more pro to me (but its hard to use...) audacity has bugs on my system, so i'm quite forced to learn it. energyXT2 looked like a nice soft! sadly, no sound was reaching the speakers, i never understood why!
so now im a proud renoise user, it looks like the most powerful interface available on linux (and maybe on any OS, this is a beast!) im still stuck with the native VST issue...i know theres a way to make them run on linux, but it looks so complex,..i just stick with the FX provided with renoise, its already more than good!
