best software ?
General discussioni'm doing my internship for vzw WISPER. http://www.wisper.be/icms/web/php/index.php We specialize in active art education for adults (+18) which means art education ( painting, photography,audiovisual arts, dance , a big range of music courses, u name it , ...) in an active way : the methods used in the courses are much about interaction, group process, ...
We just had our 1st try-out for a beginner course using music software.
the stress was -here again- more on creating something together and on play , experiment and experience, and not as much on "just teaching" the program.
the weekend seemed to be a succes, i think people had a lot of fun, and made some nice tunes together but the only remark was that we were using
"garageband" for software--> a very simple freeware music soft that came with the macbooks wisper bought.
advantages : it's free + very user friendly for people who are not familiar with making music on a computer, in other words it's fast and easy, so technical issues are not too much upfront
*the downside *is that this program doesn't exist for pc + , it's too basic. There aren't so many possibilities.
we're thinking about buying software for the future courses . which finally leads to MY QUESTION :
what do u think is the best option for music SOFTWARE ? (in our situation )
criteria :
- very user friendly
- price
- quality
- mac and pc
my idea was ableton live ..but what do you guys think?

garage band? bof ableton it's the top for living and mixing Cubase for general code and pré-mastering FLS for sequençor Reaktor for the roots, tue principe of "couple" is awesome
really? pro acid, i'll look for this... Absynth for the strings or basical nappe for the final touch, soundforge or cool edit, as usual i think

bof ... :) of course to further specify; it's not for mastering : making compositions together using a computer ( also with other instruments like keyboard, percussion, or anything the course members bring) afterwards experimenting with fx etc ...there is only limited time i think fruity loops could be good option too ...but maybe not compatible enough, cause it's different from most other sequencers ... and i wouldn't want people to be stuck once they try out a different software.
i know they all have these different qualities but which ONE would u recommend ?
Ableton or FL.
Maybe Ableton because it's more visual, you see what you create. I think FL is more abstract.

yeah, of course, but it's not for me ! personnally i love fruity loops. i'm just counting in all the criteria which makes me consider the possibility that FL is not the best option in this case
