Lately I came across some songs (also one of mine) with a thumbs down, but nobody commenting about why they put the thumbs down... and I think this is a pretty discouraging thing... there are lots of newbs among us, me considering myself as an absolute hobbyist, and those commentless thumbs down are just plain stupid... I know one shouldn't be impressed by such a behaviour, or it could simply be someone who doesn't like your style of music!
IMHO I'd say we don't need the votes! The number of listeners is, I think, enough... as are the comments... the votes are just representative enough I think... The votes are pointless... one big compliment-comment does the job better i think, just an idea, tell me what you think about this issue!

oh, it's been discussed over and over again.... if you follow up your stats you can actually figure out who downed it...
it's not fun to see thumbs down with comment but live with it... sometimes they don't like you... sometimes they expected something else in that genre and are dissapointed... sometimes, well, it's the plain truth but they don't take time to write down a constructive comment...
don't bother too much
(tell me what song of you is concerned and i'll give it a critical comment.... if it's my genre)
I don't hesitate to share my point of view, it's not hard to do, everybody should do the same way
I don't think hits say much about the good-or-bad-gehalte of the song because songs in genres like drum'n'bass will automatically get more hits than songs in folk for example. I'd let the voting stay but when you vote you should get a comment style windows wich asks you WHY exactly you gave that vote, so short => voting system with integrated comment system
i don't like that thumbs down without comment... i have some as well, but hey, not everybody can like what i do, so i don't really care, but i must admit it would be cool to know why, but hey....
i would keep the voting system, it gives you an idea...
even if they don't comment, you still know they don't like it and that keeps your feet on the ground...
Relax! Don't mind people giving thumbs down for no reason... Some people just don't like your music/techniques and aren't interested in putting any more effort in it. It's just no big deal :)) If you get 4 thumbs down without any comments than it becoms different because then you get demotivated and don't know what you're doing wrong. If I stumble upon one of those and the song is shit, I'd even give them one more thumb down but with a comment.
I'd give heaps of thumbs down if it weren't for the fact that people expect an explanation for you giving a thumb down and I'm not willing to because I have better things to do than comment all day (like just staring at electrobel :))). People tend to be too soft imo on production fora. It all has to be good-good and when it's bad it needs to be elaborated endlessly with still the risk of retaliation/bad vibes & all... Face it: lots of music here plainly sucks for lots of people. If you get some to give you any tips besides their emotional disliking, you should be happy in fact because on other fora they just plainly ignore you if you don't achieve a certain productionlevel.

That reminds me of my University-Prof at the Arts Plastiques FAC, he allways said: I f i don't say anything about it, it just does not deserve any comment, if I destroy it verbally, if I nuke it with words, say that it is shitty and all, then I don't like it, but I consider it! Well, I'll get with the one thumb down ^^... but the idea with the vote-comment -box would need some consideration... I think that that is a really nice idea! zark?
i don't really mind that people just give thumbs down without knowing why ... in fact u always know why ...it's because they just didn't like it. basta. if people just don't like it at all , they don't need to give me an explanation about it. they are free to think so. if they liked some of it , but disliked other parts ... they don't have to vote good or bad , but can give a comment about what's good and what could be better...that's constructive , thats how we learn. but to be perfectly honest , don't see the reason why we should be torturing ourselfs with bad comments ... i don't like to give bad comments , and i don't like to get bad comments ... so the thumb system is just fine to me
exactly my point....
but if it's for technical reasons an explanation can be helpfull...
but i wouldn't get an obligatory box system...that will screw things up...(forcing peops to give bad comments, hell, what will we get then...) ;)
Well, I never give a 'thumbs down' quotation. If I like a track, I'll give it a 'thumbs up', that is enough. When I don't like the track it doesn't accordingly mean that it is bad, but that it's not my cup of tea. Giving a 'thumbs down' without further comment is really a letdown and is of no value to the creator of it. And we are all here to help and support eachother isn' t it? 8)
