To all fruity users that are in the posession of Ableton Live: you have to rewire FL to Live, it's much better. But don't take just my word for it, read why:

FL is a very very good soundsketching tool as we all know. But we can't deny that it lacks certain things that other sequencers do have. For starters when you render in Fruity, it renders at about -3dB. That's why, especially if you don't know, you get the impression that it osunds 'fruity' or dull. You can compensate that by raising the volume, but that raises the noise too etc. Next thing is the oversight, which isn't that good in fruity and last thing offcourse the lousy midi implementation. Now you can bypass ALL of these things by simply rewiring to Ableton! Let me explain how and why:

  1. Go to 'all programs'>fruity>advanced>install plugin version (to make sure you have rewire support
  2. Start ableton then start fruity, it will start in rewire mode.
  3. read the ableton manual on how to get sound from fruity... Notice something very handy: you have 16x2 channels comming from fruity. This means you can assign any efxchannel(s) from FL to 16 different audio ins in Ableton!
  4. Record whatever you want, whenever you want it in ableton at 24bits. here comes the big advantage: this recording is offcourse internal which means that it actually sounds better than when you render something in FL.
  5. Sequence and produce your gutts out in both sequencer at the same time, this gives you an absurd amount of possibilities. For example: you have efxchannels 2,4 and 6 assigned to drumpatterns in FL. You send those channels to 1 audio in in Live, you record your drums, like a break and then you can use all the neat tools of ableton on that break (warp, some more efx) and all very visual.

And it goes further. Midi was always a problem in fruity, damn latency, things not working and all... Now that you have your project running in live alongside Fruity you can simply make a midiclip in ableton, send it to your hardware synth, returning audio from your synth and putting vst(s) and efx on top ofit. All smoothly and with latency compensation... Now how cool is that!! your synth as a vsti running in ableton with all the possibilities of two programs!!! 8)

Now excuse me gentlemen (and women), I have songs to make in sky is the limit-land :))

i'd go for it if their was FL for mac... FL was my first introduction to electronic music and i loved it! but i switched to other sequencers when i turned to midi hardware. and after that i switched to ableton on mac so no more FL for me at all :(

Well , I'd like to thank Bandarlog! I'm now fully into Live rewired to FLStudio and Reason! This is like completely nuts regarding the possibilities that opens! Right now I'm doing a song which uses Fruities BeatSlicer (more used to that, than the Reason Slicer), Reasons Dr.Rex and Malström and Lives Effects, Simpler and Operator and Impuls... gets really complicated, but sounds very unique! THNX!

damn bandar, another great tip!! thanks a lot, these are the things we d like to hear. i allready rewired reason to ableton but wasnt aware some users here could not know that possibility.

another small tip: i have a micron synth and i wire it also to ableton: i connect the midi out to synth midi in and audio out from synth to audio in. don t worry about latency, you can correct it in ableton hoeraaa!

yeah, and once u understand the philosophy of rewiring, everything is possible!!! personnally, i use the sequencer of reason only to record my knobchanges, alle the rest goes in ableton. the cewl thing is in ableton that u can make your songstructure really "live" (what's in the name :D ), but then for example with sounds of reason. now if someone knows how i can record my reqson=knobturns in ableton instead of reason, it would be quite helpfull. cause it's a pain in the ass that when u delete a part in ableton, the knobchanges are still the same in reason, and thus they are not synced with the structure in ableton anymore.

Sorry firefrog for editing of your last answer but i don't hav modified something just a mistake :(

it's too late and i'm drunk so i talk in french.
