Which are the best DJ Headphones

the akg 240 series are studio headphones, and there they absolutely rule !!

for dj, i would say sennheiser or pioneer, hell, even sony...

but i use my K-240 ;) and it works just fine

imho it doesn't really matter which headphones you use while DJ-ing. I use cheap sony headphones (€20) i use them every day, laptop, mp3player... a friend of me uses these expensive sony MDR, i personally don't like them, i prefer my cheap ones, it's something in the lower frequencies that doesn't sound right to me. another friend uses sennheiser HD 25 i think, this one has great bass responce and clear sound, but small earcups and it is a little fragile.

i think it all depends alot on personal taste, like studio monitors. search for a shop where you can test them or test headphones from friends.

I personally think you just have to get used too your headphones. i wouldn't spend 200 euro's on it. in my opinion, the only advantage you really have (for DJ-ing, i'm not talking about studio work) is that you can put the more expensive ones way louder (but that just gets you deaf quicker) :)) headphones are fragile so if you buy one that costs 20 euro you can break 10 of theme before you have spent the 200 euro's you would spend on expensive ones. ;)

Thing with us is music usually is VERY loud (i use earplugs that filter the nuisible frequencies), and the AKG sometimes isn't loud enough for me to hear the mix ;) I tried the MR from a friend I think it is fantastic, despite the sheer weight of that headphone. I move a lot (as in jump around and make a fool of myself behind the decks) and the MDR are so heavy that I got "des bleus" from them... so I'm looking for something not too cheap (cause I'll break them the first night) and not too heavy (cause it hurts)... and I think the AKG look a bit silly (big, bigger...  yes my looks are important to me)...

So any other suggestions?

i think the sennheiser hd 25'll be the best choice, very expensive though.

fragile? hell no :p we use them at school, and though they look fragile, they survive hard transportation (you know how it is on the road), cause actually the hd25 is meant for recording and studio. but because of its size and good isolation, many dj's use them too. for studio/recording i have a beyerdynamic dt770. but as it is quite a big massive thing (like the akg), i use a synq hps-2 for dj'ing. its pretty cheap (60 euro or so), but it has good sound and bass response + it can be bent in any way. though sometimes i find it too flexible (no resistance). as for service after buy: i needed a new cable for my dt770 last month, and i had to pay 56 euro to get a new cable with plug. normally it would have cost me 90 euro: 41 for the cable and 50 for connecting the cable to the phones! luckily at orbit they did the connecting themself for only 15 euro. meanwhile, i also broke my dj-phones, and that costed me nothing! even though it wasn't under garantee anymore, they replaced it for free.

i wouldn't say that dj'ing with a 20euro-headphones  is the same as with a pro headphone. cause cheap phones often don't isolate that good and can't be worn for long time without painfull ears. i find the synq a good compromise, not very expensive, but still good isolation and can be worn much longer than the  cheap jb-systems i had before 

i used sennheiser hd 270 quite some years to dj and they r good ones.. but since i stopped my ordered myself a pair of fancy akg k 701( better for producing) :D

I personally use Behringer HPX4000 headphones. (paid 50 two years ago, now costing 40)

The good thing about it is that it goes loud (yep up to deaf) and the bass response is very good. I mix with them for about two years and still didn't manage to break these things. There were extended to rain, were heavily used, I stood on the connecting thing that runs over your head, a friend of mine (107kgs) fell on em. Another plus is the 'telephone cable' that rols on automaticly an can extend to 2m

Negative: I have a small head and the shells sometimes hurt my outer ears, they push too much. They also don't isolate fully. (but certainly good enough)

Behringer is considered a cheap brand, but it does work fine.

Some friends of mine use Sennheiser phones and they all are happy with em.

kwality has much relevance... getting used to a hd 202 doesnt mean u'll spinn good sets with them... at a "real" party u have like a 1000w monitor at 1m range from ur ear, if u use a cheep headphone u'll hear shit and ur mixes will suck... I'd say get a sennheiser hd215, techniks rpdj1210, sony mdrv700dj or something of that kind... to mix at home u can use fucking earplugs for all I care :-) cheers
