Condenser Mic for vocals?

Why do you need a condenser mic for vocals? I've got a dynamic mic (Shure SM 58) and I'm very pleased with it, and it isn't that expensive... I think if you only need it to record vocals in a home studio that should fit your needs, but if you really want a good condenser (I would also want one once I've got the money!) mic you'll have to have a big wallet!

I agree with Herr Majer: if you absolutely want a condenser mic, you really have to put some money into it, otherwise it's no use!

Otherwise, i don't now the Samson series, but i did work with the Rode NT1-A, and it is a pretty good mic. I shure recommend it. I've also done voices through an SE Electronic Gemini: tube condenser mic with it's own alimentation. Really nice for vocals, but sucks for everything else, while the NT1-A is quite diverse ( works good on acoustic instruments too ). I've also done vocals through an SE Electronics Z5600 A. Pretty good too, has it's own alimentation too, and costs about 300€ less then the Gemini. And you can always try classics such as the AKG C414. Not often used for vocals, but a very good condenser mic, so should give satisfactory results too!

Anyway, also be sure to have a decent preamp that goes with that kind of microphone, otherwise you really better stick too an SM58, since the condenser mic's won't be worth the extra price you paid for them. That would be like buying the best possible stereo amp ever just to connect it to your pc speakers...

Yep, good quality costs money. I found for meself a cheaper solution in Sennheiser. It costed me 450€ but i am more than satisfied about it. See it as an investment, it's worth it in the long run. And if you have a mixer or harddisc-recorder with phantom, you don't absolutely need that pre-amp.

I tend not to agree with the other posters. Even a cheap condencer like the behringer B1 (or B2) will be an upgrade to an SM 58. I recently A/B'd the B1 to the rode NT1 and aldough the overall impression was in favor of the rode(mush more rounded and more quiet), for rock vocall's, that need a litle edge, i would be tended to use the behringer. The sm58 is ideal for live use couse it rejects al but direct sound, but for recording you'll get a more open and realistic sound with almost any condensor. A nice pre-amp is a verry good investment, but i would be tended to go for a decent mic first and then opgrade the pre-amp.

I'd also recomend to look at Oktava: they have verry nice mic's for a decent price. My main vocall-mic is an oktava MKL-5000(multipatern-tube mic.), but at 800€ it's probably out of the topic starters budget. (i have 2 B1's i often use for overheads for wish the are ideal in a recording enviroment becouse of there crispy top end, not live couse they would pic up to mush surounding noise)

I've done all the vocals with a Samson condenser mic and a behringer mixing desk. I'm sure it's not the best, but in this stage of 'my career' it's good enough! Later, if I earn some money with it, I will invest in a better mic. It's about 100 euro's.

Well, i wouldn't go as far as saying all Behringer product's are good, but the B1, B2 and B5 mic's are verry nice seen there price.

I'm also looking for a mic in this moment...

the MXL DRK and MXL 990 (http://www.mxlmics.com/condenser_mic/condenser_index.html) seem pretty darn good for their price (respectively 112 & 90 euro)

Is anyone familliar with these mics? Someone also suggested me the Studio Project B1...dont know which ones are best...

btw, I heard the samson mics are pretty lousy
