Been saving up for some extra studio toys but i have trouble deciding on what i should get & the amount of cash i should spend on particular items....
I already narrowed down my options to a handful of items
1: Decent monitors I know shit about monitors besides that decent ones cost alot
2: A good synthmodule for pads, atmospheres & leads that is pretty small (no keys) but has alot of knobs n sliders for easy manipulation & preferrably also capabe of recieving audio & using the synth engine to mash this sound up ie use it as waveform, apply filters, envelopes, the works. I figure a virus or clavia nord unit maybe?
3:a good, flexible filterbank I have already kinda decided on this one, Sherman filterbank. I've already spotted some 2nd hand ones going for a good price, both V1 and V2. Anyone have experience with these & knows how the different versions handle?
4: an affordable yet decent hardware compressor unit that can be used on seperate tracks & on final mixes.
All advice is very welcome
Oh yeah, id also like to accuire the skillz of Duke Ellington, Aphex Twin & Vivaldi, willing to sell my soul
1: Decent monitors
I have two Mackie HR 624 and i'm really happy with it. The sound is clear as crystal, really, it's wonderfull !!! http://www.mackie.com/products/hrmk2/index.html
and if you want a "perfect" sound, complete the 624's with the HRS 120 :p http://www.mackie.com/products/hrs120/index.html
4: an affordable yet decent hardware compressor unit that can be used on seperate tracks & on final mixes.
I'll buy a compressor too, so i'll just say you it's the Mackie Quad comp/gate. don't know if it's really what you want for the spec and the price ( 990 € @ Orbit ) but it's really a fantastic compressor :) http://www.mackie.com/products/quadgate/index.html
Hope it will help ^^
monitors: dynaudio if you can afford... or adam but very expensive. though they're better than genelec - imo
filterbank: get the sherman v2 more stuff, just sound a tiny different from v1
