Okay

cleanup time ...

you got doubts about a song, you block it. Need heavy cleanup crew on the breakcore section, block anything that has obvious audio samples, or mentions it in the description.  Any artist who wants to keep it gets to pay 0.75eur per download.

I've already cleared a couple from the remixes section.

i remember despoilah not beeing okay with blocking breakcore songs using copyrighted samples, sorry dude, but it's either that or paying a lot of money. If you pay, i don't give a fuck, but i don't want to have to sell my car to host your tracks.

We'd need someone to make sure on the legality of a couple of things

1/ example : http://www.electrobel.be/muzik/16912/carmina_burana The notes are from 1935, so normally with 75years it becomes public domain, and that song has no samples in it .. So it should be legal ?

2/ http://www.electrobel.be/muzik/10890/Stick_em Uses acapella from BBoys, available on their site, does it make it legal ?

3/ downloading a portishead acapella from the net ... (it's a pending track). legal or not ?

4/ vocal samples from movies ? legal or not

oh my... here we go again. Hope certain people will stay out of the discussion.

See post below........ I had medialawcourses back in the days at university and mailed someone from poppunt just to make sure. As long as no SAMPLES from (e.g. the london filharmonic orchestra) are used, you can use the midi notations of songs that 'lost' their copyright due to age (50 years after death!). I have no idea what to do with the title. Would be weird to imagine you can make your own title and put your own behind it. But you can use the notations on a legal base.

Not legal but don't become all gestapo about the matter. There are tons and TONS of released songs (I can give you a list that goes on and on) that have moviesamples in them and none of the producers got sued in any way.

I know of only one example in music history that got sued for it and that were the fun lovin' criminals with scooby snack (or soemthing). They used a tarantino sample that almost made the song famous. Tarantino smelled money and sued them. All of the earnings made by that song had to go to Tarantino.

So basicly: it never happens... And not to bring those maffiosi on evil plans we should shut the f*ck up about it.

If you want to get rid of the songs containg moviesamples, all of my songs got to go (and I'm gone too). But I'm willing to pay any fine you get for my songs containing moviesamples. (Willing to put that on paper too if you're anxious about it)

yeah, i'd tolerate movie samples because it's not the primary intent of the copyright (for movies its the image more than the voices).

1/ Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. Copyrights last untill 50 years after death. Carl Orff died in 1982 so his work can't be used for a couple of decades.

4/ remove... Even if they (Portishead) do claim it's free, it's not. they're registered and if I'm not mistaken that means everything they make under the name Portishead is registered and copyrighted too.
