Well I just got myself the Hercules 16/12 FW Soundcard. It got S/PDIF inputs like most of the other soundcards had that i owned. But I newer figured out what to do with those: Can anybody help? By the way i read a lot about S/PDIF but there was never an explanation where this input is of some use in music-production...

You can record digitally (read: with 0 quality loss) with those from some cd-players, dvd players, mixers, other pc's, maybe some synths (virus ti?)
S/PDIF was mainly used to digitally connect your sound-card to an (A)DAT-recorder, but since those are almost dissapeared from this planet, them connectors are moved to the frequently never used section ^^
