Hey I'm planning to get me some Krk active studio monitors. My friend has the KRK RP8 and they are really great. Now i've seen there are also the RP6. Now i'm wondering which i should get.
The 8-series are 140 watt with very deep bass The 6-series are 100 watt with also deep bass but a little less
I've lookep it up on some forums and i see that a lot of people say that the 6-series are better because the 8-serie has to deep unnatural bass sounds. Is this thrue? Money isn't an issue because the difference in price for a pair is only 100 euro between the 6-serie and the 8.
My question is if the 6 serie is good enough to produce at home? or is it better to buy the 8-serie? thanks
i had the same dilemma when i had to choose between the tapco s5 and s8.
i took the s8.
:)
Why ;-)

Mmmm, thanks for the info Actually i was talking about bying the KRK's I'll look for the thread i've read yesterday (if i find it again hehe) and post it here
I've found it, but it's in Dutch Sorry frenchies ;-)
"want wat ik zeg is ook maar gewoon mijn mening; het verschil in diepte van de bas was niet zo 123 op te merken maar de verhoudingen tussen bas, midden en hoog waren beter bij de rp6 wat deze voor mij de betrouwbaardere monitor maakte. ik denk dat de rp8 een beetje overmatig bas kreeg in verhouding met de rp6; maar dat is ook weer gewoon dat verhoudingverhaal met midden en hoog."

I've got a physical location problem: they got delivered at my parents house and I don't have a car to move them around ...
i've got the rp8's (the old verion) and they're pretty good for their price. mixing/mastering kick and bass is a bit tricky on them though, i think because they are pretty flat in the lower regions and most stereos have a peak between 90-175hz, so initially my mixes had too much (kick)sub and not enough bassline power. also to get a good balance between bassfreq. and the mid n high freq. is difficult to get right, i have to use a spectrum analyser to check that the bass doesn't peak higher than the 1-3k peak. in fact it sounds better if it does on my krk's (this might also be due to the caracteristics of my room.) but on most stereo's the bassfreqs are too loud then. i don't have any experience with krk rp6. the gen2 is said to be better and costs about the same (maybe even less). if you are looking for cheap moni's you should also check out the ADAM monitors (fr. ex. a5') they don't go very loud and have less bass, but you can solve that by buying a sub later and they are very good for their price.

there must be something wrong with the stereo's you listen on. it's very normal that the bass frequencies have to be louder than the 1-3k's to sound right. that because of the way the ear works: it is more sensitive for sounds around 2k, so at low and normal volumes, the bass and very high freq's need to be louder in order to sound equal. proof is: your KRK's have a more or less flat caracteristic. that means you take that as a reference since it isn't supposed to do any differences between what you do and what you hear. off course your music has to sound acceptable on all systems, but you can't take a stereo with too much bass as reference for that (many stereo's boost the bass in order to sound "better"). my opinion is: buy the 8". at least you'll hear what you're doing in the bass-freqs. the cruve of 8" moni's mostly start around 50Hz, so actually you'd still need a subwoofer for the 20-50 freq's. but since you don't have the instruments to calliberate a sub, you'll be better off with just a pair of 8"

[/quote] strange, so every soundsystem/stereo i've listended to my music on isn't a reference? also all those mixes of other artist's tracks in my genre that i've checked with spectral analysis are wrong, too? don't get me wrong i'm not trying to be unfriendly, it's just that yr comment has gotten me rather confused... also it's not so that my mixes sound bad on krk's (not enough bass for example) and good on stereo's so i do use them as a reference. and i would advise to go for krk 8 instead of 6, cause indeed alot of people find the mon+sub approach difficult to use right.
didn't know those mony's where so popular...
anyways I got rp6. I found (when listening in the shop) that the 6'es where better balanced (imo), and a tad cheaper and that always helps for a pov like me^^
I'm realy pleased with them, don't mind they have a bit less bass, its not the experience that matters with moni's but the perfection in balance
