about asio-drivers
Help neededI was wondering if the choice of driver influences the quality when rendering-exporting audiosongs from a soft-sequencer.
If I use the asio-driver in stead of p.e. the mme driver, the sound-quality is mucho better at playback. So I wondered of there's any affect when digitally rendering (I guess not, but I've been awefully wrong before).
Second question: does the selection of driver has influence on recording-quality or is it just the playback issue.

For the first question : the type of soundcard, and the driver you have for that soundcard does not have any influence in any soft sequencers when you render. That is if you have nothing coming from your soundcard in your sequencer indeed!
For recording, I dont think that an asio driver will record better than a mme driver for example, given both are the latest ones. Should be the same recording if the same resolution is used.
the ASIO driver has an impact on recording while playing (full-duplex driver). maybe not to the quality but to the timing... (remember those old soundblasters who started recording out of tempo after 4 minutes?)
for your first question... render them both ways and observe/compare...

yes, the asio driver afffects the overal performance of your music software, especially latency.
The best ASIO driver is ofcourse the one you got with your soundcard. But this only comes with high-end soundcards (well, not so high-end, the audigy already has good ASIO drivers, but any lesser soundcard then the audigy will not have ASIO drivers). For soundcards that don't have them, use ASIO4ALL. This will already enhance performance, though it won't have such a dramatic effect on performance like proprietary ASIO drivers have.
I don't think it has an effect on the audio quality though... It still uses the same busses, AD/DA converters, soundchips, ins/outs... And those are the elements that have an effect on audio quality (be it recording or playing)
