xp 64
General discussionsince i'm not that patient to look it up myself ,and all other complications that come with it.
i ask it to you guys,i know some of you are experts in harware(zark,etc).
i wondered if xp 64 needed another cpu(i presumme so),and motherbord,but a guy i know ,has bought the last pc from aldi and it already supports 64 bit,
i compared the hardware to mine ,almost simular
second question,it realy schould be the 1ste but;;;
is it better to produce with it,more stable???,naturaly more power
any one has experience with this at work,or at home,let me know

I've experience with 64bit, but on unix machines ...
on pc to run XP-64 you'll need a 64bit processor ...
right now there's only a couple :
- AMD Opteron (expensive MP processors)
- Intel Xeon AMT64 ( same remark )
- AMD Athlon 64 FX ( fastest processor on the market )
you'd obviously go with the 64FX; unless you want to work in MP (MultiProcessor).
Just a remark because i am not sure .... under unix operating systems, if the OS is 64bits, applications running on it must be 64bits ... i suppose the same rule applyes on XP64, (unless it has some kind of realtime 32--64 bit translator ...)
Anyhow, usually you install XP64 BECAUSE you have a 64bit machine ... not the otherway around :)
it's just an XP but compiled to give best performance out of a 64bit processor.
(though you can run a normal 32bit XP on the 64FX processor)
I'm not sure, but i think it's not really usefull runnig a 64 bit OS, while all production software is still 32 bit. I mean: if you need to upgrade your PC now, yes, go for 64 bit, but if you're still fine with your actual system, at this point in time, i wouldn't buy a new system. It's still way too expensive if you ask me. My pc crashed recently, so i had to buy new stuff, but since my CPU survived ( Athlon XP ), i kept that system, and it's powerful enough for what i need to do with it ( at this moment, i'm working on a 50+ tracks song in Nuendo 2 with several VstI's and loads of plugs loaded, and i'm still at 60-65% CPU charge ).

i was just wondering,i have cpu and ram enough,and iff the softwares dont support it yet,whats the use of doing it
i hope that in the future,reason will support dual processors like cubase does,would make a world of difrence,since i have the room in my case ,think its my best option,was basicaly the main idea,i bought a case for many years,the content of the case is changed easely,and >ik kijk de kat uit de boom<when it comes to harware,i buy not the newest material,but the most interesting ones,since the laungh of the 64 bit,its a bargan to buy older -still powered cpu's
