General discussionCome on! Have a go on one of the tracks over here, and type something up on it. Describe what its like (not just "this is great") and post it with your credit as a contribution to the further work of your fellow e-beller.
I don't think that it's possible to contribute anything inappropriate. Moreover, I can't think of stuff that's outside the range of the acceptable, as long as it's funded with some good reasoning. If you catch some errors somewhere along the way, please type them out! The involved artist will not only see this as a compliment (hey, you took the time to listen closely to something he worked on ...), you'll enjoy listening twice as much to the 'reworked' version a couple of months later. And i'm sure you'll get a "thanks alot" in your mailbox in no time
what I'd love to read is if you write about how particularry awefull you tought that minute 1 to 3 of "song X' sounded, because of the crappy mastering, the o-so-obviousely-not-in-the-rythm-rythmic-part, etc. etc. ... and send that in.
Looking to myself as a musician, 99.9% of the comments i receive are positive. Don't get me wrong - i love positive comments (hint-hint :))) but from time to time, i also get some thumbs down. These are valuable opportunities to say what you think about someone's work, and to try to substantiate your reasoning, by writing it all out. I hardly see any of those passing by here. often, i don't see more info than "I really liked track XYZ". Please, you don't have to be an expert. All, most of the ppl here on e-bel are after, is some feedback. Positive or negative. Personally, I'm not after public relations blurbs or a generic "this rocks" or "that's cool"... the feedback i appreciate most is the negative one (if reasoned well, that is).
I know 99% of the artists would be happy to talk to anyone who shows interest in their material.
Reading artists' reviews is always interesting. Whether you're reading sumthin' bout yourself, or whether you're reading on an artist you really love/hate. Most of the time, you'll always find some commons with your stuff.

Yeah, well that's true & all about the feedback. But besides the fact that a thumb down could lead to a technical comment that could be useful for the artist, it could lead to hurtful comments when it comes to syle. Everybody says they'd be happy to receive comments, any comments, and so they should be... But I wondr what would happen if for every thumb down you'd also get a comment like: "This song really sucks, not especially in a technical way...well that sucks too but you could work on that. But like you have no own style, you're not original, you sound awful and I think you'd better close the kitchen and go home..."
Ok, that's an extreme one, but in fact not far in intensity from hundreds of positive comments here. So, to what would it lead? I think big arguments, "ambras", counterstrikes and so on.
So I totally agree with you elfenkommando. You should get the negative comments here too (sometimes I think like "COME-ON!" when crappy songs get nothing but good comments, 4 ups and 1 down. It gives the impression to the artist that he should continue doing what he's doing while he's heading for the wrong turn). It would indeed be learnful but I'm not sure if everybody could handle as much negative feedback as thumb dowms...
