Laptop live performers - read!
Help neededHey everyone! I knew one day would come when I would experience big troubles with my equipement during a gig. This day was saturday. What happened? Well it's pretty simple : I tried to boot my laptop and it never did due to the too heavy vibrations which put a strain on the harddisk which ultimately failed and fucked me deep in the ass. It's not the first time I had problem with volume/bass vibration. I remember playing at silo before panacea, and my laptop took more than 5 minutes to boot and launch live (takes 2 at MOST usually). It's only when I reduced the return volumes that everything started working fine. So anyway, laptop livers/performers : if you dont want troubles, try to use something to protect your laptop (and HD) from too heavy vibrations. Laptop stands / foam / cushion ...
I dont know what I'm going to use yet but I'm not going to use my laptop on some basic table anymore without some kind of protection underneath. (Oh yea, I also forgot my cds that day so it was a no show for me, what a fucking shame arghhh).

you can use the freefloat to avoid these problems Mik. it's basicly an air-cushon in X-form that is used to put pick-ups on to avoid needle-skips. due to the x-form, your laptop will stay ventilated underneath. it costs 25 euro for 2.
For all i've read on the internets that freefloat thingy isnt really popular and doesnt seem to serve its purpose very well. Infos?

uh?? i've seen it on the biggest parties etc :? but i must admit i don't know people that use the freefloat for laptop-use, it was just a brainstorming proposition of mine. although i think it might well do the trick. offcourse flightcase with mouse does also the trick (but you need to watch out that the mouse doesn't melt due to the heath of the laptop + u need to forsee good ventilation
i use an aluminium stand, its great for cooling and it works better, but i still have probs with th e volume also....
