music genre : Unclassifiable ?

so, now that i've taken moderation a bit, i can see some patterns emerging ...
Such as the "abuse" of the "experimental" genre ...
People upload their personal experiments under that genre, when thats not the point of it.
But indeed, the songs posted in there, usually defy existing classifications.
I'm listening to this new pending track; called "Obscure" by boskozz. The things could sound like as if it came from Melodies on Mars album from aphex twin, but it's in no way an "experimental" track. And i'm not too sure about posting it in electronica (but then again, WHAT is electronica ^^ ) So, the idea of creating a genre called "Unclassifiable", where things that just don't fit anywhere would go emerges. It would be filled already with all the tracks from the "Crossover" genre i thin, as that "crossover" just means its a mix of different genres, making it unclassifiable.
Can i get some feedbacks on your feelings on this ?

difficult question imho... what for A is Z is for B Y if you catch my drift... I once posted a hardcore track and a mod classified it under elektro... My friends said it was hardcore, the mod disagreed. Not that I have a problem with that, not at all, I'm just trying to explain that it's very difficult to classify most music. I think you could get a lot of "unclassifiable" tracks after a while? Imho best thing to do is to stick with wath the composer classified it under, even if you disagree... imho ;)

It's not what the "composer" thinks his track is, but what people expect to find when they click on hardcore. Giving a style to your track is not always easy, when i post new tracks of mine i'm usually hesitating between 2-3 different genres.
If the hardcore moderator thought that track was electro, and moved it to electro, then the electro moderator will have received it, and validated as an electro track. Meaning two moderators gave their opinion on the style of that song.
Send me the name of that track and i'll review it.

Well yeah, but look at the number of tracks in the "Crossover" section, and then look into the "Experimental" section that is litteraly polluted with tracks that are not of the experimental genre.
You're the boss man :) just saying my opinion... I have no idea how many tracks every section has and just saying my opinion as an user, not as someone who moderates here! Think the moderators will have more enlightening opinions for you then

ok, i think the idea is good.... this will solve some problems and will counter the creation of 10.000 subgenres imho....
if a moderator has doubts, he can still ask for a second oppinion before sending a track to a section, so i think it could work....

well sub-genres will still emerge if there's enough of it. like the folk section etc... which is still up for reviewing ^^
i understand what you're saying, but still if you look at todays names for genres it gets ridiculous and after a while you just don't find your way anymore.....

But if you look for a specific subgenre, you find it. Or am i going the wrong way with song classification ?
no,no not at all, but if you look at what there is today.... 7500 different core - genres 3500 techno subgenres, etc etc ......
and you'll notice that everyone has a different idea about those genres, and this is not only the case with core/techno/house/.....
people feel the need to have the idea of being innovators, so new genres will keep on poppin up, and a ' unclassifiable ' section will be a good way to fill the space between all of them subgenres.....
i mean, ther will be tracks that one person describes as ' gfshghs- core ' , the other will call it ' sdqjvibu- core ' , yet another person will call it ' experimental ' and so on....
a sollution then is to call it ' unclassifiable '
then when a clear definition of certain genres arises, it's possible to put the right tracks from the unclassifiable genre in there....
that's a bit what i meant....
Just a thought about the crossover genre;It would be interesting to keep it IF the tracks in it would have a mix of recognisable styles...."ow yes,thats a nice mix of this and that genre"...to keep a diffirence between exper. and crossover....
