Sound card Anomaly
Help neededHi guys, me again :P
I recently bought a Terratec Aureon 5.1 sound card. And I already experienced something weird while inserting it into my pci slot. The metal frame where the jack inputs are located has to be stuck past my motherboard partially cause it's too long, something i didn't have with my previous sound card. This makes inserting it already rather difficult :P
There's also VERY weird background noise coming from it. It seems like every electric signal that runs through my computer is being diverted through my sound card. I can even hear it when i move my mouse about. It's some sort of a hum like a bumble bee makes.
Also, when I plug the headphones in, I hear little or no bass. Is that normal?
Oh yeah, the last insertion of the sound card was rather harsh. It slid in the pci slot rather abruptly.
I think the electrical signals are either from the metal frame which makes contact with the motherboard, or otherwise something's damaged while inserting it.
Any ideas what it could be?

Interference like that can often be because of some parts of it touching others where they shouldn't; I've assembled a few pc's and noticed that, too.
It's rather hard to actually damage a PCI socket so I wouldn't count on that; IF you want to make sure, insert your last one and run some tests.
Otherwise, is that jack entrance actually jutting out of your box? Because I don't really understand your description entirely. Anyway, I'd need to see it to be able to judge from a distance. Can you make a close-up pic?

I've drawn a little scedule, cause making pictures of it is quite impossible :) Measurements might be exaggerated ;)
So you see, I had to slide the metal piece between the motherboard and the computer case. I think there's the problem.
cables and connections can be the problem... example: bedore i bought my terratec soundcard i had a Maudio, goin out with 2 CINCH cables, and i had the same noises each time i opened a window etc etc, and a constant lill background sound like a dzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ... no earth in CINCH cables, the problem was because of my cables organisation... Now i use jacks and evrything is ok, so beware of your cables... sound problems can come from there...
I doubt it's a cable thing, cause the only cable going to my sound card is that from my dvd rom. But I could always give it a shot :)

sometimes when you want to reduce a noisy shit in ur monitors u have to try another cables setup... But indeed , sorry , i doubt this will help you for now.
Dont forget to chek the latency and buffer size... try with more latency and buffer

No, it's no cable problem. I have the same problem when I play really really loud (only possible on headphones here). And you can indeed clearly hear the mouse move or a vst loading. So it must be internal and I'm curious about a solution too.
Indeed it's a hardware problem which has nothing to do with monitor setups. The noise can be heard through any output device (speakers or phones). I'm eagerly waiting till Jemenfish replies cause I think he holds the answers :)
Is the metal part that touches the motherboard strictly speaking necessary? I got either a soundcard or a graphic card a good bit ago and it had this few cm's of useless metal for no good reason but due to that it was hard to fit into the slots, so I just took it off.
But hey, if it's a hardware problem in itself you better look up a google on similar problems; Maybe it has nothing to do with the card in itself but nonsense like the drivers then.
For the future, consider buying an external soundcard (firewire for example). This way you avoid this kind of problem. PCI sound cards in a tower often tends to grab all interferences from your computer.
But don't give up. I used before a PCI Terratec 24/96 without trouble, so there should be a solution. But I honestly don't know what to do :(
The part that sticks out is not quite necessary, but the plate itself is, because it keeps the card in place (it has to be screwed into the case). But I thought of this as remedy: simply taping the part off where it touches the board. I'm gonna try that out this evening.
I already googled for similar problems, but with little result.
Anyway I'll find out later if my theory is right or not :)
