Part I : The Tools Listing

Yvan Hinge and me always kept secret the methodology of manufacture of our sound but here is our first tutorial. The selected piece as example is not a very good piece, it is not bad either, but it gathers all the techniques used on our album of 2007. Now we work on other techniques for the next album, so we can reveal the old ones. The piece uses mainly Reason and Reaper. Reason is not a good program. It has much defect and sound problem.  It’s possible to transcend these problems when you are a reason master. The piece is simple and repetitive thus Reason is a good candidate. It makes possible to lay down an idea very quickly. I cannot explain all the details. This exercise would take 10 pages at least. I will firstly be satisfied to list the softwares. Next time I will explain the details for each soft.

1.Reason File

Some part of the vocal are included directly in Reason to make effects and synchronization parameters. The vocal file is edited in Adobe Audtion and the cut made with Recycle.

Some compression are made directly in Reason, between the beat and the bass via sidechain entry.

Don’t forget to hard limit and boost medium (Reason have a bug with hi-medium).  Don’t use others stuffs like stereo imager or compressor global. Buggy Bullshit.

2.Bass

Layering between Massive (Givichy Mega Bass Preset), Reaktor (Ensemble Dragon Reece Generator) and Surge with Izotope Spectron to make the layers.

3.Voice Mastering 1)    De-esser compressor 2)    Autotune 3)    Doubler stereo 4)    Ultrapitch For the aspiration effect, we use Rayverb in”reverse” mode.

• Glitch for micro-effects. Final Mastering Made with : Waves SSL EQ for the bass and Izotope Ozone (multiband stereo imager, harmonizer, limiter and Compressor).
