I need your help for this one! I’m in my senior year marketing and now I do my internship in a cultural centre, they have one of the biggest concerthalls of Belgium.

A task that I have to do is a research into concerthalls( the entrancehall also,..) and what people want when they go see a concert. My company wants to create a cool,trendy surrounding for young people (18-35 years)

So my question to y’all is to share your experiences of concerthalls, what are the stuff (gadgets, special features) that a concerthall or festival provides… that you find cool?

If the same concert would be on 2 places on the same time ( I know its not possible) why would you go to that specific hall ( distance not included).

Share what you have seen,heard,… what are the new trends, what are the things that you were thinking damn that would be cool. For giving stupid examples like a stage that can be lifted manually, the most crazy light show but also small touches like a possibility to recharge your cellphone …

got some ideas i'd want to share with you but yes.. fill in your profile first.

just an idea, but its something i like when i go to party: free water ... sounds stupid but often you got to pay for water, even from the 'robinet'   so... voila  :)

. enough free parking space in the neighborhood (I never go to Vorst Nationaal for that) . seats in the back like at AB (not everybody does like to stand up all night) . slightly inclined floor so the smallest people get to see things too . not too expensive drinks . the possibility to get your money back if you bought too many tickets . two/three extra bars on different spots so the crowd doesn't all move to the same side during pause . one free consumption (on purchase of ticket directly from the concerthall and not from some stupid online-ticket-dictator) . not having to pay a reservation fee for your ticket. I paid so give me my ticket! . free vestiaire . the possibility to buy a 'toiletcard' (1,5euro for a night instead of having to pay 5 times 30cent) . good access to the concerthall

well I've noticed if there's too much light (I don't mean a light show on the stage although that also can be a bit too much at times, but when it's just overall too bright), it might block the vibe a bit... if it's not too bright it helps to drop the inhibitions and get the party started.

-When I come into a venue, I want to see that there's been put some work into it; Not money, work. No loose cables, no PAR spots broken and obviously gathering dusts since months/years, etc.; Don't care what you program, if there's nothing to back it up, chances are the sound will be abysmal too, anyway.

-If it's a large club with a lot of options, I don't want to see a lightshow using no LED technology or anything environment-friendly but rather using a lot of older scanner / moving head gear + smoke machines when there's only a young band and 20 people standing in the room. You can make a perfectly good (or even better) show with a small layer of smoke and 1-2 light effects in such a setting. Large concerthalls work too much with the 'More = better' idea (Same goes for soundsystem, some of the larger ones you can't even go without earplugs).

-I don't want to have the feeling that I am supposed to go in there, enjoy the concert, have one or grand max. 2 beers at the bar, then go home, with the club generally being open at 20h and wanting to close before 00h. That's one of the reasons why you won't see me at AB: If I liked a concert, I want to be able to hang around, preferably with an afterparty, and discuss with people you know saw the same concert. If you ask 20+ euro for a concert, that's a minimum IMHO.

-If I go to a paid concert, I don't want to see/hear 100+ people that got in for free through radio's, magazines, etc. etc. when I'm walking through the entrance hall, and realise I was an idiot (and in the minority) for paying. Limit your guestlist when there is a lot of interest, please (I know of at least one concert where the guestlist was so big that the artist had to give an additional secret concert the day afterwards; That's hilarious how far we've come, no?)

-Wireless internet in the entrance with areas sufficiently protected from drunk people etc. can probably work.

-For a cozy atmosphere in the entrance hall, or a positive vibe, don't permit it to be littered with free magazines / flyers / ...; Ancienne Belgique, Kultuurkaffee, etc. are prime examples. When I come into a club and it would be my first time, I wouldn't be terribly impressed if there would be hundreds of flyers lying willy-nilly all over the place. If you don't have the manpower to clean it, just don't allow it (besides, AB banned it since the hall was once so filled with flyers someone went sliding and fell badly)

-I want all in tickets! No reservation cost, handling, shipping, sending blabla! If they 're gonna charge that annyway, ad it to the selling prise! I back out when there's extra costs at the end of teh proces!

• I want tickets at a ticket office! here's my money, here's my ticket. Don't like postorder, except if teh venue is farfaraway and rather small or something.

-Seats in the back or on the side are nice too. I get back-aches from standing up too long.

• I hate long waiting-times in between warm-up and headact.

• I hate eco-cups with rembours... just give me a glass, I won't steal it or break it!! I hate holding on to your glass cause you have to get your 50cnts back!

• Free toilets!!
