Which softsynths do you use the most? and which ones do you think are the best?

My personal favourites are: -Absynth 2 from Native Instruments (I'm testing the demo of the new 3.0) -Albino from Linplug -Vanguard from RefX

I fell in love with the Monologue synth, which is delivered with Cubase SX 2.0 and Nuendo 2.0, you can get some really nice creamy sounds out of it. Perfect for dreamy lead synth lines. I like the A1 synth very much too, comes standard with SX too. You can get some really nasty basses out of that one. I use the PPG 2V quite often too, as well as the Juno X2 for some sharp background pads. For the rest, it generally depends on the track i'm working on. I've got tons of free VST's, and honestly, some of them are really nice. Anyway, no synth is perfect, i consider them as giving you a "basic sound", out of which you carve the sound you're really looking for... In other words, in a certain way my plugins are my favourite synths :)

Examples enough of producers who did it with just a basic set-up. When musicians have loads of gear, I get the intention they just don't know what they want. Create your own sound and select your gear in function of that sound. Don't do it the other way around.

but hey, proof that I'm wrong!
