Universal buys BMG... one more :(
Globalisation on every level.... The big buy the little and so on... It happens with beer, music,....
A big piss 2 the music bizz...
phu, longtime, I refused to download music, unless I really couldn't find the cds in the stores and the wouldn't order it. But now that Cd's cost almost 20euro or even more if they have to order it, and now that I know that bands actually make their monney on gigs and merchandise, and not on recordsales, I don't mind that much to download!!
I myself see my music as art, and give my songs away for free, for all eyes to see!! I don't wanna make some recordcompany stinking rich!!
(most of you will probably disagree with me, but I'm sick and tired of losing my money an ideals)

Disagree? No way... you're absolutely right... I make my music and don't need to get rich from it... If someone wants to pay me for it, nice, why not, but nobody must expect from me to change it, or hassle me with managers that decide evrything in my name or limit my creativity... I want full creative freedom !!!
My music is for everybody, off course it would be nice to make some money with it someday, but if not, no problem, and if yes, great, but I will not compromise my ideals and creations !!!
long live creative commons !!!

Selling one cd, even for 20 euro, of a band with a bit of contracts, royalty deals, etc. will net the artist a few euro's.
Playing somewhere live will often hook him a couple of hundred euro. On top of that, playing succesful live gigs is the single best way to sell cd's and merchandising anyway, rather than have it distributed.
Anyway, talking about the music industry...I just read Sabam is prosecuting 'Seniorennet', a website for people of 60+ for sending mp3's through the network. Sounds desperate for some quick money over there :)
