hello, i have few questions for you ppl here: i have my first live act going in may, and i'm trying to find a way to do that . i have 1 pc (amd 1800+, emu 0404 soundcard) running flstudio, ableton live(demo, will buy it if i find a solution to the problem described below), nuendo and a few softsynths, a yamaha djx(using it as a midi controller) a yamaha dx7 synth, a evolution uc 33 midi controller(9sliders, 24 rotaries) and a small behringer ub 502 mixer(3 stereo inputs)
my first plan was using just flstudio to play live, but since i wonna play one hour it would mean i have to load like 400 patterns ,which is quite uncontrollable 8o second plan was exporting the loops from fl , and use them in ableton,... there is a problem however: if i export a loop with some delay attached to it this loop goes out of sync, so i need to find a way to play the loops with the delay overlapping the first seconds of the loop.
does anyone here have a solution to the ableton problem, or does anyone know a good way to play live with this setup(i just wonna play loops and reconstruct my songs live) i can buy some extra gear or software for a max of 500 euro's, but only wonna buy something if i'm sure it will allow me to do this set.
thx , relaxotan
i use live4 and i think i know what causes the out of sinc prob: are you shure you fitted your sample right in live? i mean: when you put a sample in live that is a bit too long, live will think this is the right length and will warp it to the general tempo (upper-left corner). so you need to fill in the right tempo in the properties of your sample (u know: when u clic on a sample, you see the volume, envelopes, tempo..). then i think everything would be right in sync (of course, you have to switch on warp and loop). 4 the live-setup: i would use ableton as a master and all your other equipment and software (via ReWire) as slave. the only prob is: when u want to load a new live-file, the patterns and samples in live will stop playing, but you can cover that by playing some tunes on your dx7, or by playing some loops in FLstudio. of course you use youruc33 as midi-controller in live, 'cause this program has a LOT of power when u have a decent controller (like your uc33). the djx that u use as midi-controller can do the job in flstudio and nuendo (just a question: those softsynths, are they plug-ins? 'cause if so, you can use them IN ableton live!). and finally, u plug in your outputs of the dx and the computer in the ub 502. just don't forget you rmidi-cables ;) midi-out of the computer in your dx7, and the midi-out of your djx in the midi-in of the computer; uc33 goes via usb e?
i think the issue is that he has a delay effect in fruity, so when he exports the loop, the delay is clipped ...
*Solution1: export a dry loop into ableton (dry means no effect). Then add delay in ableton *Solution2: You probably exported the FIRST loop that has delay .. meaning the very first notes are still dry, then later you have the delay kicking in ... what you should do is export the 2nd or 3rd loop ... so you'll already have the delay on the beginning .. then the loop should loop as normal .... do you see what i mean ? Normally that should work, even if you use unsynced delay ...
I have a solution for your Fruity problem. when you export a loop with a delay effect or reverb or whatever use the option "wrap remainder". that way you will have a perfect loop. no matter what effect you use. it will calculate the delay and paste it at the beginning of your wav file. resulting in a perfect loop.

nice, that's my solution #2 actually ... but easier :P
thx a lot guys, i posted the same question at the fl forum still no answer.... i already tried to wrap the reminder and it works, gonna excercise , and post the final result on electroblel! :P
ok now i just managed to get my loops properly into ableton, but i have another question: some of my songs are louder then others, so when i start mixing song one with song 2 there is a big difference in volume. i know i can set the individual volume of every loop, but ain't there a way to play the whole set at the same volume , without having to adjust the volume of 400 loops?

maybe by putting a compressor on the master channel ... though you should normalize your loops, that should help already a bit ...

I think a compressor is his best option like you say. normalizing is also an option but he should calculate the RMS value instead of just doing a "simple" normalize because a "simple" normalize works on the peaks of your sound. and your ear is sensitive for the avarage value (rms). you can do that cooledit I believe. normalizing does ruin your soundquality a bit though.
Isn't it a bit dangerous to compress everything till it has the same volume? i mean: won't some songs sound overcompressed while others sound normal? I would go for the normalisation in the first place (no, I would go for the equal mix of songs first but I know that isn't easy) and then maybe add some compression.

just talking about a quick-fix solution ;) problem with normalisation is that it just takes peaks. unless you have a special application that normalizes on rms like isniezot suggested ... thats the best solution. (cleaner than with a compressor)
