I'm in favor of dividing the dance-rock genre.... it does no longer fit for the different types of songs that are posted there...

I'd love to see a metal subgenre (I think Rabauw wouldn't be against if his songs were no longer categorised un the dance-rock genre since there are absolutely dance-elements in it... Same goes for some of my additions to the genre.

there is a lot of different subgenre in rock, too much to add all, and I agree with you, dance and rock means nothing!!

so my idea is :

main genre : "rock"

subgenre : "alternative" ( punk, indie, shoegaze, krautrock, garage, post rock, ...) "metal" (trash, hardcore, grincore, deathmetal, hardfm,
progressive.....) "pop" (simply pop ! )

i think with this 3 genres we can make happy evrey ebelers who made rock flavored tracks

god damn guys stop dividing music in genre sub genre uber genre ultra mini extra genre   ^^    always beeing against this, first of all: every producer got his own interpretation of a style, secundo even when you divide in genre and sub genre the tracks are often not at the right place, tertio if user gives a good description you know what you will ear... Why is it so usefull to divide in many many music genre??

about this topis, indeed dance music and rock music have nothin to do together...

hey Aphone, I don't like all these subgenres either and am pro good songdescriptions but for dance-rock... what kinda genre is that?

I'm making an ambient kinda track but with distorted (even chunked) guitars, a techno kickdrum and minimal arpeggios... will anyone bother listening to this when it is in dance-rock... if not only out of curiosity? I really don't know where to put it...

remember that Zark wasn't tempted to create a rock-genre, because it is stil electrobel, which i can understand very well. i think there are other communities that are especcially for rock, metal, etc.. otherwise we would also need to create the genres "classical", "jazz", "ballad",.... just because an electrobel-user also makes such music it never stops!

I've always looked upon the name electrobel as 'an electronic platform for music from Belgium'. I personally never saw the name as a restriction to "electronic music", though I know that was Zark's original idea behind the community. Besides most rock and metal tracks here are made electronically, and the users that do use live instruments often combine them with electronics (I'm thinking of Bedlam and 101sonic for example, but there are more). I don't really care whether d&r gets divided, indeed maybe too many subgenres can be created. And if you divide, that means you get at least two. I see everyone speaking of rock/metal and subgenres, watcha gonna do with the "dance" part? ;)

I would just rename the dance&rock genre to "electro-rock" or sumtin like that. It would at least make a better general name for all the tracks that are in that genre.

I can live with that... just another name.... (but a subdivision like "soft" and "hard" could be usefull)

I also see Electrobel as a site for all music made in an electronic (programmed or with real synths etc..) way.
