Getting live gigs ?

Hi,

what are some ways to get live gigs ? I'd do about 45 minutes if possible, and with a lot of stuff live. I am alone though, don't know if that matters. But still a lot is done live. But if you want to do live gigs how do I get started ? Do I send out demo CD's to someone (whom I don't know), and do I send in the produced version or the 'live' version( which is always different anyway !). Or do only people with a contract get gigs or something ?

Maybe a strange post, but I have no clue where to start :)

I'd try to get some gigs next year at college, but the only thing that happened there in this style was the electrobel party, which I missed ! Sorry !

Cheers !

well for a start you could put some of your works on this website, believe it or not, it's main purpose is promotion ...

Already heard a couple of "success stories" of pple who found gigs thanks to mp3's ;)

all we know about your producing is "Producer Music Style: Don't label me with one style please :)" that's not much to go on ;) is it ?

lol, it is and it isn't ! :D

After exams and vacation I'll give you a hint or two then :)

But except for electrobel, internet, no other ways to get your name going and get some gigs ? Would be very helpful.

Cheers

... Contact youthclubs through their website, subscribe for contests,... you never "receive" a gig.. you have to find them !!!

Poppunt is also a good site to promote you as a artist towards organisations.

If you are from 'Brabant'

Kunst-stukjes

Otherwise, send out demo's to everywhere.

You have to keep in mind than any relatively succesful youth house gets a LOT of demo's sent to them. Have to think about the bigger clubs then, like Kultuurkaffee. I had a look at what they got for next year. Boxes and BOXES of demo's, and already 30 bands lined up for the free podia. Better make sure your demo really looks good. Don't even bother sending simple 'cd-r' media with just some writing on it, try to find stickers to put on the cd's or so.

Hey, and your college is VUB, right? We'll be doing electronica nights in Oktober, November and December, so no worries, there will be electronica. De la vega will also be playing start of the year.

AH ok, I thought about emailing you Jemenfish but I didn't want to bother you with it :) I didn't know KK was so popular ? Any suggestions of the number of songs on such a demo CD ?

Got enough info now though, I'll figure it out. Just the nr of tracks would be nice.

Cheers !

6 tracks is what I see most. Personally, I think that really ain't much, but it does give a view of what a band is capable of.

Kultuurkaffee popular...on Thursday, mostly, with the free concerts.

I'm doing conceptual nights at the start of the academical year. One electro/d'n'b night, one indietronica/electronica/clicks'n'cuts, and one micromusic night.

Busy man :)

After summer I should have some spare cash to make live play a bit more fun to watch and for me to do. Once I get that covered, I'll give you a demo CD when I see you @ KK. Or when you're organising something there.

Just make sure you get in touch with the right people of the scene you're producing music in/for. I never sent any demo's and still got gig(s)... (putting my music online did the trick). It might not work in every scene, though.
