I'm looking for a soundcard with minimum 8 inputs. I'm gonna use it on my laptop which has a firewire-port. Probably I'm gonna use cubase sx to record. As usual money's tight. I think I can spend 500-600 euro's on it.

Suggestions?

Steinberg also has an 8 in / 8 out designed for use with Nuendo / Cubase SX. Costs about 500€ too if i'm right. Seems a good piece of hardware to me, maybe worth checking out too.

M-audio 1814 a friend of me uses this MAudio on his laptop: they sell it very cheap in Gent, i believe he paid 150€ or 200.

the only issue i ever saw, is that the firewire has a weird effect on the network, but as long you're not part of a network or on the internet and using the MAudio firewire at the same time, i think it's good stuff!

well yeah, MOTU is kinda like the rollsroyce in this section, no?

well, I searched a lot and I found 'em (Maudio 1814) in germany for 475 euro's mostly, in belgium, they were about 650 - 700.

So I bought one two weeks ago (in germany, UPS!) Already recorded drums and it works fine - till now no buggs or unstable behavior. I don't use a network on that laptop so I'm not able to tell you if that's a problem. But when there's no problem, we're not gonna make one!
