DMX Fire/Cubase Problem

Help needed

Recently I've bought a Terratec DMX Fire 6 sound card, and I had no real problems with it. But now, I start Cubase and Reason (I Rewire), make some beats and decide to add some guitar to it. Recorded and manipulated the guitar, and there was no problem. But when I play the track after I've created a Multiband Compressor insert for the guitar, every 5 seconds my CPU bandwith usage pops up to the maximum for just a millisecond. There is no way my PC isn't strong enough (Pentium 3.0Ghz, 1Gig Ram, 120GIG SATA HD) and I've made far more processor intensive tracks than what I was doing now. I used ASIO drivers, at 44100HZ, at 336 samples/buffer (so that's not that much, isn't it?). My windows XP is clean of virusses and formatted about a month ago, so that can't really be the problem. Hope someone has some kind of advice...

You say you use a multiband compressor? Is it perhaps Waves' C4? Coz' that plug really is a PIG when it comes to CPU usage, believe me ( just like the L3 Multimaximizer, it just bites a heap out of your processor ). I say you must face the facts... Export some tracks on which you've configured all plugins right, so you can disable those already, which saves you some horsepower. That's the only way i see right now. Do you have a lot of tracks in your project? A lot of FX charged? It could help if we got a better idea of what your project really looks like...

I've just used the native Cubase SX Multiband Compressor (Inserts -> Dynamics -> Multiband Compressor - I guess ya'llready know this ). I was using 5 rewire tracks and one audio track for the guitar. But I think I've discovered the problem: my SATA disk is having failures: go get a new one (lucky it's still on guaranty - or what's the english word for 'garantie'?). The chance is very big that's the pain in the ass. With the same computer I've made songs up to 24 rewired tracks (all with intensive eq/compressing/fx) and there was no problem. That's why I thought there was just a bad setting in Cubase. Thanks for the advice!
