I'll ask the owner of the Kebab-shop if he's willing to close for the evening and come with me then :D
Good idea; While you are at it, put some flyers there ;)
Anyhow, here is the jury for this year
-Bernard Van Isacker, Alfa Matrix label (Front 242, Implant, Anne Clark, ...)
-Ben Van Alboom, Focus Knack
-Bart Dujardin, Je m'en fish (That would be me ;))
-Tim Heddebauw (Foochow), Je m'en fish
-Wim Arys, Syndrome Recordings
-Rollznoyce, electronica contest 2005 winner
-Ben Roelants, JIM TV (Presentatie MovieSnackx & ID&T Dance Chart, Redactie & Presentatie Going Out)
-Stef Bollaert, Programming Noisegate
-Ewout Koek, AKH Records, Netherlands
-Matty Ros, Langweiligkeit, Netherlands
so how s the jury gonna decide? will they check f.i. if the artist playing is doing all live..? or are they just gonna sit down and listen and vote if they like the music..? just curious
Just like in the pre-selection, the jury is free to decide on their own criteria. While in the pre-selection practically all selection was done on artistic value and most of the jury was musicians, these jury should vote on different aspects; Owners of a record label will judge on the potential for a release, programmers of studio's and festivals should make their judgement on the live act, while myself I tend to look at Je m'en fish in it's entirety.
That way there is no set of rules fixed in stone and I tend to choose my jury each year from different 'spheres' in music; Chances are slim someone from Jim TV will look for the same thing as someone from an EBM/electro label like Alfa Matrix, or a mostly lounge/experimental label like AKH.
They need to give me X/10 votes, preferably with an explanation I can pass to the musicians.
You know what's even more funny? One of your jurry IS my neighbour!!! I live on the same floor as Ben Roelandts from Jim!! Half my block will be there if all goes well! :)
Guess the name Blockparty is already taken???
btw, where is the flyer for this one? so I can print it and put it up in the elevator of our building (more people might come)
I don't have a .JPG of the official flyer; It was sent directly to the printer and printed in 5000 copies; The last ones are going to be distributed at the VUB.
You can, however, print out the poster in flyer format, I presume, but I don't think it will be very easy to read. You can find the high resolution file here:
