need some help with setup

use live as main sequencer (forget about cubase, too complicated/cumbersome) and rewire reason to it. don t know how that works but that s surely explained in the manuals...

the live manual will also tell you how to use midi n stuff to sequence your korg.

and yeah i know, you don t have the printed manual, but it s included as a pdf with the software.

i use ableton as a main sequencer at home with hardware attached to it. here s how i do it: create a midi channel, define which channel on your sound card you use (it must be the a channel your hardware responds to). connect the midi out from your sound card to your midi in of the hardware. i connect the audio out from the hardware to an audio channel in ableton, that way it s easy to record your audio, and you can add external efx.

to use reason rewired to ableton you have to open ableton first, then reason. in a new midi channel you can set the midi out to reason instead of your soundcard. in reason the first hardware block in an empty file is the midi stuff. you can link a channel (the channel you defined in ableton) to a synth of reason in that block. (you don t use the reason sequencer!!) then you have to create an audio channel in ableton to capture the audio, otherwise you ll hear nothing. set the audio in of the ableton audio track to reason and then you have to set the audio channel as "in" otherwise you ll hear nothing.

i hope you can get your things to work, once you know it it s easy but if you dont it can be a bit difficult (even with manual). i will post some screens of me if you can t get it to work.

yes you can use you midi keyboard to play notes, i forgot, but he says he wants to use his microkorg and electribe so he has to control those with midi. if he wants to play the reason synths on his microkorg he can also configure it in ableton, it s easier if you have one control center instead of configuring everything at different places.

use Cubase as your main sequencer (it's not too complicated...), in the menu, you have to put on reason channels (=rewire). with cubase sx you don't need to copy any dll...

select a midi channel and put the midi in for receiving notes played on synth and put midi out to let cubase send notes to your hardware synths. (select your soundcard midi here).

also select a midi channel for your VSTi's and you need to put the track midi output to the corresponding VSTi... (pm me if you have more questionz)

use ableton, you can use it also as a software sampler ;)

so it seems to me i have to choose between cubase and ableton...

maybe the advantage of cubase are all the vst plugins and the advantage of ableton is it has an easier interface? (can u use plugins with ableton??)
