ok im really stuck right now, i need a good laptop/desk replacement and i just cant make my mind.
here's a selection of DC/DC2 laptops with their average price. if you had to choose one for audio and video, for the next 3 years at least, wich one would you get? pro and cons?
at first sight, the dell inspiron 9400 seems a good choice for "the good price", but i have no idea of their after care services and their build in quality. the xps seems nice aswell but its very pricey, as the HP but it has 7200 rpm harddrive. the mac has it all but i never used one and im scared because of the over heating issues

any idea?
might wanna check toshiba :)
dell i heard different echoes, some saying the service was good, others saying it was bad ...
acer i know 2 people who had to send them in for repairs (one of them being KINET on this site)
macbook i also heard about the overheat problem, and the casing changing color because of that :s
they have a special dell customer sevice for the xps, suspposed to be better but it seems battery goes down fast and the fans make lot of noise (on regular models)...
unfortunately toshiba is 533 mhz ram and they come quite stripped down for a high price, i checked the qosmio and its a bit deceiving for so much€, thats why i didnt included it. and no fuckin sony for sure...
jesus, its worse than choosing between 2 womens :)
btw, anyone ever saw/used a LG S1 laptop??? cant seem to find any shop selling them
i also look for a laptop,went to see some,buty the sellsman made me afraid;
on the toshiba ,the firewire ise'nt the right one to branch a external soundcard,but i have a slot,to put 1 in,the best he could sujest was a soundblaster wich i dont like for internal use;
are there some better soundcards for laptops?
i have totaly lost it,caue these laptops are not like pc's;
can anyone help me with this?
From what I understand there's plenty of choices of external soundcards. I wouldn't really rely on any salesman, because that's just what they are, trying to sell you their wares. What you need to do is look at a machine you think you'd buy, then start looking up for a few hours the pro's and contra's, specifically on fora.
What's a high-end laptop nowadays, anyway? Thinking of doing away my Fujitsu 2.7Ghz...now that I have a new laptop I notice I use it more or less one hour each month...to use mame32 :D
i'm wondering if this Alesis Io14 would do the job,or this emu1820 Pci Interface
I bought myself a laptop last week on tones.be (mechelen). It's an intel yonah centrino duo 2x 1,8mhz, 2gb ddr2 ram, dvd-rw and 100gb hdd for 1270€
The it-whizzes assured me that this would outperform my p4 3.4ghz desktop by far...
As for soundcards, I was thinking about the emagic of 370€, (emi i thought). it has 6 outs, 2ins, midi, asio2, low latency & all...
I got a m-audio audiophile firewire too but it's crap, it keeps on disconnecting, driver issue I think. I'm not the only one with that problem (on pc, on mac they're just fine).
