Cubase & Latency

Hi guys

i have a little issue with Cubase (SX2) .

I managed to more or less correctly sync audio and midi (since i use Cubase as a sequencer for midi, but i use it as a multitracker too, to record every instrument individually).

Most of the time the sync is ok .. but last night, i wanted to put some fx on a beat i made on vst ..

so i patched the soundcard output thru to my analog filter, then back to my soundcard input ( i have a patchbay, really helps)

now the problem; is that the beat is offset ... because i have the output latency+input latency ... and cubase is configured to get rid of only the output latency.

So my recorded beat is offset (if i play the original vst + the recorded audio, i hear the difference)

Is there a way i can apply a negative offset in miliseconds to a whole audio track ? and not having to change my cubase settings or manually moving the whole track

Yeps;;; u have a track delay per track that u can assign. Look in the track properties ; I am not sure where it is in SX as I'm more familiar with the 'old' V5

yes, i'm also not used to SX :)

been using cubase3.84 and vst5 too much ^^

i still have trouble to send lsb+msb midi codes to my synth using sx2 and vst5 .. keep getting the impression that cubase software is slowly becoming more 'audio' and 'vst' orientated :)

i'll check there, i thought about it couple of hours after posting, but didn't have time to open cubase yet

The track delay is situated under your pan in your track parameters left of your screen. Just use it like your pan/volume: click and drag the bar till you're satisfied :) The value is in milliseconds if i'm right. And it's pretty easy to send msb and lsb with cubase SX: just open your list editor, put a note where you want your change, and assign the parameters of that "note" in your left screenfield. I personally find SX easier then VST 5 :) The fun thing about SX is that it is very versatile: you have an extensive audio part, a really extensive midi part, and even a combination ( for each VST instrument you create, you get those "green" tracks whom behave like audio tracks... really handy from time to time; it avoids you havin to export each midi track and then rework it as an audio track... ). I really think they managed to combine both worlds in an effecient way.

Very important in SX as well:

Device setup > VST Multitrack > Asio driver

Changing the driver there can seriously affect your latency!

Select the best (which is not the multimedia driver), mostly your soundcard driver, with a lot of ins and outs like you say, you should use the asio full duplex driver.
