CD of electrobel

the cd has came up before yes ;-) I can find myself in this idea. The voting part seems ok to me too. But i do think this will have to wait untill after the exaams of most of us :):) greetz

actually my idea is basically a 'theme' per cd ...

so the first one will be layed back. i'd see it as a double-cd. one cd with completely downbeat, and the 2nd with a more deephouse thing. maybe even mixed (but short mixes, so things aren't too confusing to who does what)

btw, I'm having exams also :) 5 weeks of hell to have 3 months of heaven: it's worth it!

maybe we can start a poll in a month or so ... there has to be enough QUALITY material!

A double cd with chilly music... must say I like it a lot!! But I wouldn't make a mix cd with short mixes, I'd just do it song per song. Nowadays there are way too many mix cd's in my opinion...

Anyway lots of plans for the summer!!

I agree on that. Start with the genres that already have a lot of quality. It can't be too home made tracks, you know, it should all sound no different from regular signed artists, otherwise it won't have no impact i think. And a genre or atmosphere per cd is defenitely better than mixing things up.

but this will also imply that we could only make one cd this year. A cd of about 12 tracks takes a lot of studiowork ! and this cost money, which will have to be financed somehow. And then there is the legal issue. You will need to protect your artist name - if you don't and it already exists somewhere.. well you know what i mean. And also you will have to protect you song. You need to do this because, you won't get a cent out of the cd (that is the basic idea) - but other people will be able to steal your idea (if you don't protect legally). And that we don't want :). that brings me to point 3. If we use smp's from smp cd's . can we use them on a cd? (in other words, is paying for the smp cd enough to use it? or do you need to pay extra per smp?) And then - when all this is done , you can burn the cd somewhere ;-) I don't know if we are obligated to work under a label ? but i guess there could be a problem in distribution of the cd if we don't work under a label. The cd will have to get in a cdstore eventually. We could do this our selves ... but, then we would need a legal structure, because cdshops are not goiing to buy cds from us if they don't get an official receipt...

So, launchin' a cd is fun ; but i also think it will take a LOT of time and effort from a lot of people over here ;-) I think that first we need to inform about the legal issues ;-) then we can think about studiowork and eventually a label (if nec.), ... :-)

maybe we should start thinking in that direction, i.e. Electrobel's own label sure, it needs money and time --> but we aren't afraid of that, are we?? just an idea that crossed my mind :)

Yeah that's nice idea, but let's don't get dreaming too much now, starting a own label you can do in couple of years when electrobel has become something known , in my eyes outside the people online, nobody knows it ... lot of people aren't online ;)

I am using quite a few Electrobel songs in films, as some of you are aware. Sometimes I get someone to download songs for me on broadband and some of them come without the composer/author in the title. That makes attributions really difficult.

A propos, can anyone tell me who wrote, "Bells for Charlie Rework"?
I tried a title search but that search engine is not working. I am using it for the music for the credits for a film (not for profit) "International Women's Day at Rye Women's House" [Victoria, Australia].

By the way, almost everyone who has heard your songs on our films thinks Electrobel music is great.

RE - FILMS,

I apologise for being late sending copies of Dialogue in Fire and Music, but I am editing several different digital films at the moment.

Fire and Music, by the way, did not hit the spot with most of you in Belgium. I could remake Dialogue with Fire and music and add some commentary. The current version is wall to wall Electrobel songs and ART filming of a forest that has been wounded by fire. There is one human being in it, lurching around emotionally like a wounded forest dweller. Apparently for most people the message goes right over their heads ... destruction of nature and how nature is a part of us and we hurt when it hurts ... so the whole film is becoming a painful embarassment to me.

But it is not the only film we are making in Quark & Neutrino. A week ago one of our films was delilvered to the Premier of Victoria (city of 3.5 million people). The subject of the film was environmental, about the proposed deepening of Port Melbourne, for passage of very large tankers. The film is called, "The Politics of Channel Deepening in Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay. We used Zark's "Walking Down the Garden" and Feyd/Nikoa's "Farrah Wine" as background music. We are going to have to cut Zark's music out, however, because the intro to the film is way too long.

Whatever people think of our films, they publicise Electrobel music and, with rare exceptions, people are really impressed with the music. I love the music here - almost all of it. Maybe I am omnivorous.

It is difficult to get things on CD or DVD and send them out all over the place. I am wondering if it might be possible to send stuff over the net broadband to someone at Electrobel and then people could download that movie from Electrobel or some associated site.

A problem is that these movies are usually at least half an hour long to one hour or so long and quite big - sometimes more than one gigabyte. If I make versions for emailing presumably the sound quality will be affected.
