Hello All,
I am not sure if this is the place to post this, so please move this as nessessary.
Anyway, I wish to start making music on my computer, but i dont know where to start. I do not own a synthesizer, nor any audio software except fruity loops studio 5. I have the trial version so i cant save. I`m also not looking to spend any money either..
Any suggestions???

In my oppinion for starting music , the best way to start with an acoustic instrument (guitar, fulut, piano) and to learn notes, accordes etc . After this experiences you will have an idea about what you need.
every hobby costs money man, wether you want it to or not ... even if you decide to go jogging, you need a training and some decent sneakers ... if you don't want to spend any cash, i would go out in the bush, cut myself 2 nice branches of a tree, steal a bucket from your mum, or your girl, and start rammin' in on it like a fool ...

Totally agree.
every hobby costs money. It's not easy to invest in it at first.
BUT .... some tools are opensource and free.
things like Buzzmachines for example
8o yeah that is a little weird...
if you wanna keep it very budget...try Magix Music Studio (50-60bucks) and by yourself a USB-midi keyboard (starts from 150 euro for the small models). There are also some freeware studio softs downloadable on the net.
Hell, I started out with FL 2 (on a pentium II) and my computer keyboard and that was barely 2 years ago :O....where was that dude that was lecturing me about rich people and my mummy's wallet?
But once you get into it, you'll want more....much more 8)
the cheaper ya start, the more regrets ya will have, that ya diden't spend an extra 50 euro's on that soundcard,or whatever ya want to buy
it starts with your cpu, type of ram, then the numerous speakers ya will blow, all in the sake of beeing economic,
if ya want something done wright and good,it costs money, unfortunately
at the end,ya will spend more money,beeing too economic,cause you've made the wrong choices;
cpu-ram blocks,haleluja

Well,
I agree with most of you guyz, if you wanna make a pro work: you'll have to spend some money!!
And of course, there are some free stuff to make music on a computer, it can be done with a minimum investment considering you also own a pc!!
there are tons of freewares on the net: vst hosts, vsts, vstis, ....!! Just go on www.kvraudio.com, for exemple!!
there, you can make a research for FREE instruments, hosts, effects!!
It can be a start to feel more confortable with a computer based audio production environement! If after a while you find that it's no good to you, no prob, it didn't cost you a lot!! And if you see that from a certain point, you are a bit limited, you can evolve to some more pro stuff.... and then pay for it!!
Another solution is to buy a COMPUTER MUSIC magazine: you'll find in their CD a complete kit of music production (host, instruments, effects & sounds)!!
but one thing you'll have to buy is amidi keyboard (usb or not)!! you'll work in a more intuitive way than by drawing notes on a piano roll page!! :D
peace, GriG

Completly agree with GriG !!! Buy Computer Music magazine and go on KVR. A tip for the card: try the EMU 0404 = 99 € great card with onboard DSP FXchip check the site. I bought the EMU ProteusX = the 0404 + Proteus X software with the complet Proteus2000 and a lot of other samples price 149€ really great stuff.
good luck
sorry if i say so.... but all this is bullshit. Making music doesn't cost me a single Euro. There's plenty free stuff on the web, worked three years with Fruity Loops without the ability to save any project (long nights to finish something - i agree... but it works) Go to the library of any big city near to you where they have music dept., they probably have also some version of acid pro, musicmaker 5 or other sequencing software. Just make a copy and get started. What you need to make music is time, talent and enthousiasm to make something of it. Not a single dime (if you already have a decent PC or laptop ofcourse). I never spent a single € on music softs (without being illegal - never work with cracked versions) or other apparatus. Does that sound in my music? And fill out your profile - so we can see who we're helping here!!!!
