besides the compressors in live i use the free camelcrusher a lot. it has compression, distortion and filtering. the output has a hard limiter on it and i use this often for limiting in combinaton with the compressor.  http://www.camelaudio.com/camelcrusher.php  btw, this is a plug with character that can intentionallytotall wreck and distort your sound but at moderate settings it can be used for conventional compression/limiting.  (edit: seems like ebel doesnt like safari 3, all my line breaks/returns between paragraphs are gone...)

i guess the first post can be interpreted in 2 ways... 1) need to limit samples/tracks before playing live 2) need limiter while playing live

tezcat, is that live on the laptop in your picture? did you try the included compressor plugin? set it to a high ratio and it works like a limiter hé

If I'm not wrong.. The maximizer is just a compressor which adjusted master level detection.

Compression is very impotent in the music. Nowadays I hear many track (especially on electrobel) which are BAD(exaggerated ratio) compression to have a loud volume.

I'm using live for my productions and live's [compressor II] . To my ears it is very useful and almost enough for all. But have to take the time to adjust for each song. I tried to create a settings to use for all my songs but I think have to change some values for each song to have a characteristic sound.

thanks for all the answers! I'm going to check out the live compressor... I don't really know compressors (behaviour) causs I never use it (only for side-chaining..)  I don't want to use any compression untill the very end stadium of production

and indeed I need it for playing live, not for maximising (I would like to do that too, since I'm finishing tracks lately, but I want to get a better grip on the use of it before I go destroy my tracks) If my music will get mastered in the end (like now, 3 tracks will be mastered and putted on EP), I want the MASTER to get virgin tracks, instead of overcompressed tracks

I didn't want to use the live compressor first, becausse their EQ's really suck bigtime!! worked with them for a long time and very extaticly happy when I got the voxengo and waves... so I tought the compressor won't be good either... but I'll give it a shot

cheers
