09/10 Producers feedback session including UK mastering

As a dj involved in the dubstep scene since day 1 BunZer0 is getting a lot of tunes to be played in his weekly FOB Radio Show on http://sub.fm
Producers are always asking feedback about the tunes they sent, mostly when a tune is not selected to be played in the BunZ show.
So with ASBL/VZW Je m'en fish we are planning to give feedback sessions (workshops in 2010), starting in the infamous Brekbit "Lost In Music" record shop in the center of Brussels.
Producers are welcome with their tunes burnt on a cd-r (For our ease, preferably no laptop lives please)
We will spend time to listen to the tunes and to analyze the mixdown and the artistic potential of your stuff.
We will offer a professional mastering made in Bristol to some of the proposed tracks, and if the tune is good enough we can also release it or ask an internationally reknown artist to make a remix throughout 2010 (this will be discussed with each producer).
Dj Brekbit (Lost in music & Drumderground) and BunZer0 will be there to give opinions and advice, so as Peter is pretty d&b orientated and Ben is focusing on dubstep we can't promise to give appropriate opinions on extreme styles as hardcore, breakcore or gabber...
This is 'open format': Come & leave (once started, please stay tho ;)), discuss at will, no entrance fee, no obligations, etc.

cool innitiative! very nice, allthough.. bunz and brekbit as 'jury'? not that DJs are less equal than producers, but.. u know.. maybe they can give an opinion on the 'dancefloor'-gehalte, but not on mastering and shit.. i dunno maybe try adding a REAL producer, loads of themm in brussels (peter van hoesen ie. for me one of BE best producers)

Unfortunately, tho, my cash is running out, so hiring 327 producers for afternoons in 2009 is a bit of a red light thing :)
We'll be starting in 2010 with courses of Ableton, mixing, mastering, open stages, concerts throughout EU, etc. (Or, well, that's the plan - depends what the allocated budget will be there, too). Putting people under contract for that kind of thing is quite expensive y'know, can't do it with kleine vergoedingsregelkens :) Have to work through interim etc.
And yes, the idea is to have it listened to, then try to judge with me for a couple of tracks what to send off to mastering. It's a tryout to see what is alive etc. ;)
And I would hate that anyone would think of them as a jury. Ever since running those electronica contests and sitting in jury's, I want to stay away from those by miles :) It's more, drop by, get some feedback, let it have a spin, let some people listen to it, even discuss between producers, etc.; All better than sitting at home producing then wondering what people think about it :)

real nice concept as i already told you! although it feels a bit like a 'who's gonna be on the next jemenfish vinyl' contest, but that's totally ok with me actually..
but i do agree a bit with harry that the comments will be more about style than about mastering/mixdown but hey, cool concept nonbtheless! i'll try to come for sure

Not straight away, although I would be delighted if someone would show up with something dumbfounding us all and I'd be interested in pressing it. That's what the idea is for, to get people to get outside and discuss a bit. I have been in too many jury's with producers where they go 'mmmm well this kind of sucks. Keep trying. Come back in 5 years'. I was pretty horrified to have to give a second opinion after that kind of feedback, and I'm pretty sure that neither Peter nor Bunzer0 will shoot down if a very young producer would show up with not-too-finished or badly mixed tunes. I can't for the life of me say where the label part is going in 2010; I'm trying to keep the open sessions/events and label separated at this point...
Man, IE8 on a work laptop and electrobel really don't match :) And no, it's not really what ebel does. I want to get people outside more, have a chat, get feedback, talk with others, then maybe rework, send it again, etc. Ebel also doesn't offer mastering (yet?) :) Sometimes I pick up people and push them by doing releases, events in Europe, etc., sometimes not; In general this has both to do with the production value, as who the actual person is. Which is also a good opportunity to get to put some faces to names :)
Nice initiative! It's ok when I put this on psychedelic.be forum? Lot of eager producers over there too.
Yeah, toss it around any which way, however I do have to say that the area is smallish, this is a tryout for us to see reactions and so far we're getting a lot, if I notice that it's really too crowded, we might have to relocate. But the more promo the better.
