Help neededHi there folks,
when surfing around, i stumbled opun this rather nice piece of audio software: "Tracktion". It appears to be a fully featured audio suite, supporting VST, and featuring a built-in sampler. This could be a nice alternative for the established players in the audio production business, and it's quite cheap also. You can check it out on:

Another piece of software (and well on its way to become my favourite) is Ableton Live. Live 4 was recently announced, featuring MIDI support (at last!!) My prayers have been heard ;) Check it out on:

the prog looks pretty good, nice&simple, no bs. I just wondered: What kind of audio device do you use? Because I've noticed that virtual devices always sound just a bit more crappy than actual hardware and I can't for the life of me figure out why...

i use an echo indigo soundcard.
as for software compared to (digital) hardware devices: there is no fundamental difference. a hardware synth like a virus for example is no more than a computer with some software on it. you could equally emulate that same software on a desktop pc and get the exact same sound out of it, given you have a good soundcard.
there are quite some inexpensive (150 - 200 euros) but great-sounding audio-interfaces out there. check out companies like Echo, Edirol and Audiotrak..
