New Breaks
Help neededHi earthlings ! Actually when you hear jungle/DnB tunes you have a chance on two to hear those famous Amens or Funky Drummer or basic sample-drums from Fruity Loops or Reason and, hell yeah, it's fucking boring. Here's some new fresh breaks that i've found wondering in my music library (they're all at the begining of the song, so easy to sample .. if you're not owning those song I can share my .rex file ;)).
Blur - Song 2 (powerful Snares) U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday (you can easily make a "war-drum" effect with it) Apocalyptica - Fisheye (POWERFUL break) Children Of Bodom - Trashed, Lost & Strungout (there is guitar riff mixed with the kicks, you can make really cool stuff with it) Ok Go - Get Over It (if you're searchin for realistic "claps"sounds ;) )

An artist i loved to sample was Peter Cincotti, lot of instumental sounds to take, and Mulatu Astatke off course an African Funk band from the 70'S with soooo many samples to do...

make breaks yourself! out of seperate hits! layering, compressing, EQ-ing and some pitching is all you need!
offcourse unless it realy has to sound acoustic

All made breaks could be used as a background layer/filling but as main beat I often don't like it.
By breaks I mean sample existing drums (or guitar riff) to "rex" (cutting each snares, BD, hats, etc into separate pieces) them and then rearrange it...
It's exactly the same manipulation as geting the base drums of your program but with less-artificial drum sounds ;)
ig; I made many of my DnB tunes using the Snare of the "Fisheye" one and the BassDrum of the "Song 2" one
ok so you'r sampling yourself some oneshots form other tracks.
I prefer to get oneshot straight from a good oneshot library. I like the "vengeance sound" library for that. (more dance/punchy sounds)

A very cool thing to do is cut the layered break into different pieces and pitch it up (no warping so in a way the layered break is gated)by doing that your eventual break will seem to be more rolling, seemingly going faster generally its just experimenting^^
Well I think the mid-end the best ;) Indeed on my last "released" song (I mean on Ebel :P -- aka FACEHUGGER ). I first made my beat without using a break layer then I put an Amen on the second drop. I think the second beat is a hundred times better and it's the high-freq-ed snares that gives it's strength to the beat ;) I'm lookin' forward to use high pitched snares instead of hatz for my next drum beats, and by the way sidechaining the whole compression so it would sound as a integer thingy.
