Sample Collection Manager suggestions
Help neededHowdie chaps, I'm currently in an exam period and, as usual, bored as hell. So I thought I'd make a tool to manage my sample collection. The idea is that you can search all your samples (local or on a removable medium, like a cd), prelisten to them and move them to a project folder. It's most likely going to use a label system (like google's picasa). Anyway, I'm looking for other features to put in, so what would you guys want to see in such an app?

Such an app already exists: Audiofinder and its free (fully functional demo)! http://www.icedaudio.com/ altough it's only for mac
Forgive me my little outburst, but you basically pointed out the uselesness of your comment. It's not because you, as a mac user, don't need such an app, that it already exists for everyone. The world extends beyond your own armwidth. I know audiofinder, I have looked at the spec list, but I can't implement all that, so I'd like to know what people would actually use.

usefull feature :
- cache preview makes a lo-res mp3 (or aac) cache version of the sample, so that you can listen to samples available on removable media ... can't think of others :) apart from speeeed :p

.net uses a virtual machine as well, so it'll be just as slow as java :p I like the idea of a lofi sample for removable media, I hadn't thought of that yet. Would a waveform display be of any use, apart from the fact that it looks very hot? @ Electrod: I don't think I'll do automatic characterisation. They have people writing phds about that at uni. @zool: Sorry for the outburst again, it wasn't meant as hard as it's standing there.

Live6 has a Library where you can do that. (I think it works too in the demo version) When you select a sample you hear it and you can move or copy it to a project folder that you create inside the library. Pretty usefull.
