Access Virus C Vocoder
Help neededI also work with a microkorg vocoder, so I know what a vocoder does, but ... when I plug a SM57 into the left input of my virus C desktop and go to a vocoder preset, I hear no sound when playing the keyboard and talking the mic.. Is there something I have to switch on or off? The manual is kind of blurry and I did what they said, I guess (Although I'm not patient enough to read the whole book.).

but it's not a MIC-IN .. it's a LINE-IN .. right ?
basically, you have to amplify your mic ... (going thru a pre-amp first) .
tanx, I tried it by routing the mic throught my mixer, took the output and plugged it in the machine. but still no vocoder. I can filter my voice and in the vocoder presets I can hear some noise when I talk in the mic (also when I'm not touching the keyboard), but one way or the other I can't play notes ...
A vocoder needs 2 signals to work, so maybe you just didn't give it a signal to modulate with? Just a lucky guess...
the modulated sound is my voice and the carrier is a sound that comes from the virus itselfs. So, maybe there's a short-cut or a kind of rooting that should be fixed to get the carrier on to my voice. That's the point where I'm stuck, I am afraid.
don't know where you are stuck; let me explain how i do it.
first thing to do is, put the sound into Ext in L/R.( left of the 12V dc sign ) then select "vocoder", in the effects menu. "OSC" means your going to feed an constant midi signal into the virus to generate an vocoder modulation signal. " osc hold" means your need only a fragment of a midi signal to keep the vocoder going.
input select must be set to " in L+R" input global should be zero input phono should be "on"
this must do the trick

It didn't work out the way it supposed to do ... I still here my voice with 'the character' of the OSC or with a beautiful delay (grrr) but I still can't play and I'm also hearing my voice without touching the keyboard. When I push a key I still can go higher or lower with my voice.
this kind of troubles I hate! At this moment I'm thinkin about making folk-music! :-)
did you check the filter balance? are there any delay effects active? I do have some vocoder presets. maybe i an send them to you. I only dont know how. email?
tou must end one of your osc (or both) to your vocoder (the input) otherwise the virus couldn't know witch signal it has to modulate
