Want to start djing

don't know much about turntables, i can tell you i'm selling mine here, but it's certainly not the same quality as technics etcetera, pm me if you want to know more :)

You can get decent turntables from so called "white products" already from 300 euro. It's best to start with rather "cheap" stuff and in the future you can always get better stuff.

I have two white product turnables for already more than 4 years and they still work perfectly.

I have an IMG stageline mixer and that also still works fine. But after a while (and that's with all mixers), you get dirt between you sliders which might have some nasty side effects. But that's easily solved with an airspray to blow out the dirt. Sliders are also the first elements on a mixer that get worn down, and start to produce crackling noises when you move em about. But you can replace those yourself.

mine are 2 cec disco 4000 turntables, and a stanton rm3 mixer ( crossfader is best to be replaced ) doin' it away for 250 , wanna spend all my money on hardware :D

if i'd start dj'ing i'd use ableton live, a laptop and a midi controller. vinyl-purists will say that's not dj'ing but i say there's a zillion more possibilities for creative dj'ing that way: fx, looping, mashing up, as many simultaneous tracks as you want, etc.

Vinyl purists are going the way of the dodo bird and the people that said portable phones would never make it ;)

There's so many playmobil 'Be the dj!' mp3 kits coming out for all ages in the USA it ain't even funny anymore; And of course they all work on payable mp3 services :)

Depending on how hardcore you want to go there's the following possibilities: 2 turntables and a mixer: look for synq xtrm-1's or technicses. Any 2 channel mixer will do, the denon x-100 and x-300 will be more than enough for what you need and go for about 200 second hand. If you want to spend a bit more and get good quality go for an encler nuo 2 or 3. In this setup you won't ever need more than a 2 channel mixer. You still have the possibility to go digital with stuff like serato and final scratch. Keep in mind that this is the expansive way: vinyl cost big time and those digital vinyl systems cost even more.

You can also try to beat the technology curve and buy a laptop with either ableton or stuff like djdecks and a good midi controler. Believe it or not, but those hercules thingies or the behringer controler aren't bad for standard mixing purposes. You won't be able to pull off any decent skratching with this, but if you're doing electro, that won't be a problem.

You can also go the cddj way, but that's just a waste of money: you'll never find any decent cd gear anywhere you go, and you can't do anything more than you can do with turntables.

One advice: buy only technics MK2 those are probably the most expensif ones, but its undeniable the best quality. even if u buy second hand. and for the mixer (i suggest Phillips all in one kitchenchopper ;) ) best one imo is Pioneer djm 600

i have a friend who bought a behringer midimixer thing for tractor, ableton etc.. but it allways jammed (when using too much controls at once..). so both vinyl and pc have ups and downs

I ordered a kit from http://www.new-line.nl 3 years ago. Gemini mixer + 2 JBsystems Q-30 turntables for 600 euro's. I never had any problems with it. It's not the best gear you can buy, but when you can mix with these you will be a hero with technics turntables.

Reviews state that it's better than the good old technics SL1200 & it has some special features that give you more creative freedom. (higher pitching options, good for when you play hardcore or like to do weird mash ups, the stanton version has key correction)

ok, it might look a bit like a commercial but i lots of my friends bought stuff there: monitors, mixers, turntables, headphones, mics and they are al very satisfied with the service.

oh, ask Drè for a price reduction and pay your shipment costs together with your order, it will be a lot cheaper. ;)

German websites are also very cheap on DJ equipment.

edit: the hercules DJ console MKII is ok it's not "state of the art" but its pretty cheap and it can be used as a cheap serato/final scratch together with time coded vinyl and an upgrade for your virtual DJ software.
