midi - vista

Dunno but I just bought an M-Audio Axiom61. All i can say is they have a Vista driver and it works fine so imagine the axiom 49 has also no problems at all!

i'd recommend to create a seperate partition with XP for your music only. and when u boot the xp-partition, get rid of all the unwanted processes (uitvoeren ==>"msconfig" ), like that your pc will run on his fastest when you make music. also, turn off internet on that partition, so it stays clean. and by using XP, you won't have all the vista-problems like crashes, compatibility, heavy spu-killing visual efx...

If you want a good master keyboard/midi controller, either go for a CME UF5 (that's within your budget) or a novation remote SL Compact 25 (that's 100 euro above your budget, but you really won't regret it, once you've used it's automap feature) Both are excellent controllers. 

The novation is Vista ready.

I don't know if the CME is vista ready, maybe some of the guys who have this one could update you on that. 

thanks for the link, Doorchaser. while i was searching the right midi my eye spied the m-audio trigger finger. i think i'm gonna go with that one. it was something like that i had in mind, but i didn't know it existed in my budgetrange.

and since i can't play piano a midi-keyboard would be another purchase wich would frustrate me to death tryng to learn how to play it. So that will be something for next year.

Look at the akai mpd-24 and korg padkontrol too then

akai seems similar, but the korg has no assignable knopkes and schuifknopkes which i'm looking for too

you gave me doubts about what to buy now :D

who's best? akai or m-audio?

dont know who is best, but I can tell u I use berhinger midi controller umx 25. was around 120 euro's, has knobs, turning potentiometers and one fader and keyboard. Use it with usb midi (so no power adapter required) and I unfortunately use Vista, and it works fine (probably the only thing that works fine on vista with me). And i use m audio firewire audiophile soundcard (the second thing that works fine with vista^^)

I messed with both in the shop and the akai feels more solid. But in this case there's no wrong choice I suppose.

The korg has two assignable knopkes and an assignable touchpad :)

I must agree that the akai feels more solid been playing with it too at a friends place.

Only thing that got me into buying the M-audio was the number of knopkes and pads, but in the end that seems not so important after all since I only assign two, to three of them! But then again I have the choice to assign more!! hehe

Hell that M-audio axiom board was my first midi-controller too so what did I know? Don't have any regrets buying it!
