A good studio headphone

I've got:

• a Sennheiser HD 270: sound is superb and well balanced, the cushions however wore out fairly quick... but maybe that's because they are used almost continuously;
• a Sony MDR-V500: slightly less superb sound (less sharp), but great for DJ-ing.

Besides the sound quality, I prefer the Sennheiser when making music because the cushions encapsulate my ears. It blocks out external noise sufficiently and it's quite soft. The Sony starts to hurt after an hour or so, because it presses too hard onto my ears... ok for DJ-ing though.

i'm not home in the budget-headphones, but at school we mostly use the sennheiser HD25 or the beyerdynamic TD770. they both give good isloation, but i find the TD770 more comfortable, because it doesn't pushes on the ears like the HD25 does. on the other hand, the HD25 is also perfect for dj'ing (swivel ears, very light and transportable). bout the sound: i like the TD770 more because it sounds less aggresive, which makes it perfect if you want to work long hours with it. but they both cost around 170 euro's :s on the other hand, you probably use these kinda headphones twice the time you'll run with budget ones, so in that perspective you're maybe cheaper off with these.

absolute colourless & comfortable absolute not suitable for DJ'ing (cause of the high impedance needed and the low enviromental noiz shielding)

prince range : 40€-300€ & they all sound sweet

I'm using a Koss PRO3AA Titanium (that's what's written on it). The best I had since there.

 I use AKG-k240 studio headphones

they sound sweet and i will allways stick with akg, but they are not completely colourless...

they boost the low end imho....

i heard a newer version of the same model and there that problem is solved....

so my next pair will be those...

i bought an ecler headphone and it really sucks, costed me 160 euro and i prefer using my 60 euro headphone (just letting you know, don't think all "expensive" headphones are that great)

i think i'll buy the hd 25 soon, although the dt 770 firefrog is mentioning looks nice as well

I have the same but I don't think they boost the low end?! Au contraire! I have alesis m1mk2 monitors and THEY boost the low end (quite a bit). I always doublecheck on my akg's and if the bass is ok there, then it's fine. There are statistics for these things btw, don't know where to get them but they exist. because most of these issues are very personal and are relative to your expectations/references. (except for the alesis stuff, everybody says they colour too much the lows). Anyway, AKG rocks... have them for 5 years now and they still sound exactly the same as the first day, and they've seen quite some noise and floor the past 5 years...

well, i compared them with elfen's pair, he had a slightly newer version of that model, and there was a distinct difference in the low end...

and they still sound the same as when i first got them, so it's allways been like that

my monitors are really flat respnsive, so i check my basses there..

i once did it the other way round and the bass was waaaay to heavy

1 advice : buy AKG

i have the k401's, they are very comfortable, you don't feel you're wearing them. since they are half open they are not the most accurate, but they are the most comfortable for long nights/mornings.

if you really need headphones that are as precise as possible take AKG or maybeye the expensive Sennheiser headphones.

don't buy cheap ass sony or Sennheiser tho. i've thrown away a lot of cash by buying crap headphones that started to hurt after 1 hour of wearing them, or that were not built to survive the mess in my studio.
