Off topic thread replies

second that (as I mentioned in the veggie thread).

I've been around (too) long on internetfora to know that fora without much offtopic are healthier.  We got a wall for crap, let's stick to essential musicrelated stuff on the forum. 

Like I already stated a lot, there is no forum guidelines whatsoever, there has never been, and people have gotten used to it. There is no sticky 'things not to do on this board'. And mostly everything is allowed. So what is allowed and what isn't? To me, IMHO, posting a close-up of a sizzling steak in a question of a veggie about other veggies is really asking for some verbal smack. We KNEW that was coming :)

Personally I take the libery of deleting threads or comments sometimes I feel are just trolling etc., even if it's regulars or 'people that know people' IRL.

What you'd need is some clear and concise guidelines. I mean, sure we deleted the guy spamming his website a couple of times, but the guy hangs around on the wall; There's a couple of users that just log in to post their new radioshow etc. every couple of days, so why are they allowed to post a 'new radioshow online!' post and he isn't, is for instance, to me, a valid argument.

Sadly enough the guideline atm sometimes for what some users can and can't do and what is offtopic for some and appropriate for others seems to be 'I know him IRL, he's cool'. Very professional :)

i agree that offtopics are a pain in the ass from time to times, but don't go SS on deleting off topics. i mean: sometimes a drunk member who tells his drunk opinion is most of the time off topic, but keeps the forum more vividly. so unless it is really disturbing, i wouldn't overdo the police-work.

about the veggie-topic: i think it was to be expected that certain members would express their love for meat and make sum fun about veggies. those things will always happen with a controversal topic . it's like the mac-topic, where it was known that windows-lovers would mock on mac (mac-mockers :)) ).

Well I think off-topic posts should only be deleted when things (and I quote Distreality) "get out of hand". Otherwise agree with Firefrog no need to be a frantic SS Officer, you simply can't delete them all and whenever there's a forum there will always be a certain amount of off-topic bullshit. If it's not taking over a topic, just some random funny ironic/sarcastic post, I'd say don't delete it. I personally often take a lot of fun in reading other people's wit.

I think you should make a clear division between offtopic posts and offtopic threads...  Offtopic posts are fun and are usually what makes a forum fun at the end.  Offtopic threads are usually quite stupid and obsolete given the fact that there is a wall where you can do onnozel all day (and I'm not referring to Erophin ...for now :))).  I think you should/could delete most oftopic threads when they turn out too stupid or offensive.  

yeah i also think it's important we still can go off topic, like mentioned it's fun sometimes after all, we're all entertainers, why shouldn't we entertain ourselves here then ( unless it's with bad intentions and stuff ;) )

So a simple question: Is there anything we should delete on that veggie thread in short? There's an awful lot of baiting going on, someone's gonna bite sooner or later ;)

i agree... reading the forum is either funny or interesting. The question if there are any veggies here is inherent to get funny remarks and so be it... If a thread "announces" to be funny let everything go it's way. If a thread is started to know some sort of producing trick or "how to..." it should stay on topic. I think that is the only guideline we need here.. the one of the common sense.

I'm still "pro" having a button not to see all party-events. I'm really not interested so if I could have some sort of filterbutton to clear out that mess for me the forum would regain transparancy and some would get better answers.

let's keep the veggie thread as an example how it should not be, and be consequent from now on...
