HELP: Reason 3.0 Velocity Problem

lol i know what they do :D but im talking about the velocity lane, like automation but not in automation pannel but velocity lane, when you got 2 'overlappende' beats and you want 2 different kinds of velocity at that particular spot but then afterward you can go on with the same velocity, like the bars indicate only 1 section of the time but with 2 different beats i would like eg 2 bars for the same spot, cant explain it better lol :D thx anyway, i"ll try it with automation but i think velocity lane is way eazier and more comprehendable qua velocity changes and indicates it perfectly

turning the velocity knob on a redrum lane gives velocity variation using green, yellow, or red pads... (soft, medium, hard... i hope i'm not talking latin...)

i use a mixer only for drums and give seperate outputs for each lane...

2 possible solutions:

• move it aside, change velocity, move it back
• have a separate sequencer lane for each drum patch

probably not the answer you expected, but there is no other way

I also like to patch every output of redrum into a seperate mixer-input for more control over volume, effects and such (works really nice if you add automation) but there is another way that easier:

open your pianoroll/drumroll, select the note you want to change velocity, hold shift and just draw in your velocity for this note

this is the easiest way to change velocity of notes that are stacked on to eachother

PS: I hope it's shift as I'm at work right now and can't check it :rolleyes:

cant u do it in the edit window?? usin the redrum in the redrum himself is not very practical , if u edit all ur drums in the edit window, you have much more control and here for example no prob to change some velocity here or there, its just another way to work. For this case, right clik on the hihats u wanna change, change event, add or reduce velocity, done.

thx aphone, but i figured that one out already ^^, also when you select notes, hold shift, draw, even if the notes are layered u only draw on the ones selected, also very handy edit: didnt read samdevos his comment, app he said it, thx ^^ it is shift idd

Tip: Try and read up on EQ-settings as this needs some work, everything sounds very harsh (loads of mid, too much high, bass needs body) well on my speakers at least... (I switch between yamaha and genelec sets) ok I know it hasn't been mastered but even then try cutting frequencies on each sound that are not needede to form the sound, that way the sounds get more breathingroom

for instance on this site (not only for EQ but for tips in general this is an excellent site...)
