Guitar and laptop
Help neededHi I have an electric guitar (Yamaha Pacifica) and I like to experiment a bit with it on a song I made. I tried to record it with my mic but the quality sucks so how can I plug in directly into my laptop? This is what I have: Laptop with 1 line in guitar digidelay from Digitech ( I' d like to use this effect on my guitar with the song) Fender mini Twin amp => Can I send the signal directly to my laptop? Or Do I have to buy something extra? Thanks

i do it this way:
- guitar directly into the jack input of my soundcard (no amp, no fx) and i use the vst Amplitube to emulate the amp/fx. it works very good!

I think it's definately necessairy to buy sth.. because I love capitalism urhm urhm because you're going from assymetric to symmetric you can buy an audio-interface and look for the right recording software OR you can buy a D.I to connect to your speaker en from the D.I. you can connect to your laptop.. it needs specified cables though.. for more info you'd better check de gitarenboer
get yourself a line6 "toneport". I have one of these and they are amazing and has (gearbox) included software that sounds great with many guitaramp presets and a efx. You just connect it to your computer with a usb cable. instal software and your done. then catch your guitar-skill-flows with recording software like audacity or better. it uses a normal guitar cable to play and it can also be used as a sound card

A friend of mine uses the same thing. He is very happy about it! (at least for the price he got it) Gearbox is a miracle he sais. http://www.myspace.com/reindeerarmy Al songs on there are recorded with the toneport and gearbox.
I have a Tascam US122. Does about the same, but less good and without the FX-sofware. It's about the same price, so the Line6 is by far the better deal. (tasacm gives you a free cubase, but you probably already have one, or don't want one :))
You can do better, but then you need a preamp and stuff ... all véry expensive!
Anybody who is even the slightest bit serious about playing and recording guitars with a mac or a pc needs Guitar Rig!

is it free?
nope... it's not only software, the 'kontrol' package also contains a floor board and acts as an audio interface

you should contact "Eurgène Ickx" here on ebel it's amazing what that guy does using only his guitar and his laptop
